Before We Start…
![]() |
As much as it might seem otherwise, the content we'll be using on this blog is far more complex than it first appears, believe it or not. We'll be treating both characters similarly; we'll use practically everything, yes, even things that shouldn't normally be used. This includes their movies, shorts, spin-offs, specials, video games, novelizations, comics, shows, commercials, and so on. As for crossovers, we'll use their arsenal without any problem, as well as feats that occur in crossovers (both their own and those of other characters), but no cross-scaling to characters and feats from other franchises, unless it's explicitly canon, but don't worry, there aren't many cases like that. Before the verdict, we'll address some of the specific things we're using in detail, so read on if you're curious. We took the trouble to research every detail of both series to make the research as complete as possible for both characters, so we hope you enjoy this blog. However, some aspects of the Puss in Boots show aren't covered in great depth, as we'll be doing a separate blog about Puss in Boots where we'll delve deeper into that, and it won't affect this blog too much anyway. We hope you understand. Without further ado, here's the full list:

Background
Donkey
![]() |
Once upon a time, in a land far, far away, there lived a tyrannical aspiring king who ruled a kingdom. To make his lands perfect, he needed to get rid of all fairytale creatures. He offered riches in exchange for handing over any fairytale creature who interfered with his rule. This is where we meet our beloved Donkey, a small pack donkey being sold by an old woman. But when it was her turn, the donkey didn't speak, so no one believed her that her donkey was truly a fairytale creature. By accident, fairy dust fell on Donkey, granting him the ability to fly. With this power, he became overconfident and revealed that he could indeed speak as he tried to escape. Unfortunately for him, this effect was temporary, and the donkey fell to the ground, fleeing from the knights until he crossed paths with the protagonist of this story, a solitary swamp ogre named Shrek. Shrek scares away the knights, so Donkey feels indebted to him and begins to follow him insistently despite Shrek's complaints that he wanted to go off on his own as usual. Donkey didn't give up and wanted to be a close friend, so he followed Shrek to his swamp house, where he was allowed to stay outside. Everything seemed peaceful until the remaining fairytale creatures found the swamp and decided to settle there to hide from Lord Farquaad. Shrek and Donkey then travel to the kingdom of Duloc in search of Lord Farquaad to get him to remove the creatures from the swamp.
Upon arriving, Shrek is given the mission to rescue Princess Fiona, who is in a castle guarded by a large, fire-breathing dragon. They head to the castle, where they manage to save the princess and escape. However, before leaving, Donkey spends some time alone with the dragon and accidentally makes her fall in love with him, leaving her heartbroken after his departure. The three arrive at the countryside outside the kingdom of Duloc, where Donkey speaks privately with Fiona and discovers her secret: she, too, is an ogre at night due to her curse, and her spell can only be broken by true love's kiss. This is why she planned to marry Lord Farquaad, who only wanted to use her to become king and Duloc a perfect kingdom. After overhearing a conversation between Fiona and Donkey, Shrek believes she said she couldn't marry him because he's an ogre and she's a princess. Heartbroken, he goes to find Lord Farquaad to take Fiona away and heads to his swamp, angry with Donkey for talking behind his back. Donkey follows him to the swamp, claiming his share of the land since he did half the work. In the middle of an argument, he reveals to Shrek that Fiona never spoke ill of him and that she is, in fact, his true love. Shrek is worried because he won't arrive in Duloc in time to crash the wedding, but Donkey has a solution: he encountered the dragon from the castle before going to the swamp, and with her help, they both arrive at the wedding, interrupting the event before Fiona and Farquaad officially get married. Fiona reveals her spell, kisses her true love, and remains in her ogre form permanently with Shrek. The dragon eats Farquaad, and they have a wedding, giving this story a happy ending.
Of course, this isn't all Donkey's story. He fell in love with the dragon, they had a happy family, and he lived many more adventures with his best friend and his new family. They met new friends, including a bandit who tried to take their lives, but that's a story for another day. After everything they went through, and with new adventures ahead, they all had a good life…

The End.
Tow Mater
![]() |
“Of course I fought Donkey, you was there too!”
Life is a highway, but not everyone wants to ride it. Sometimes, the scenery that flies by when shredding down the track of life itself just isn’t quite as appealing to some as to others. Sometimes, you just gotta roll down your window, oil up your tires, and ride along the path of the community you helped build. Welcome to Radiator Springs, the small dirt road town off Highway 66 with an equally small community of some of the kindest, kind hearted, and welcoming car residents you could ever meet! However, as the frequent cut through past the busy highway, some poor schmucks are bound to have a rough time getting around as easily as others. That’s where we call in Radiator Spring’s very own roadside pickup personnel; Tow Mater! The pickup and salvaging specialist of the Springs, Mater was a humble and fun loving hillbilly of the hills that always loved to lend a helping hook to those in need! The community was thriving, the customers were buying, life couldn’t be simpler!
…until it got too simple. To cut down the costs of travel, another highway known as the Interstate 40 was constructed that completely erased the need to cut through the small town to get anywhere. Thus… Radiator Springs was left a ghost town, a rusted and forgotten engine of a shell of its former self, and rusted especially applied to Mater, letting himself go with the time as his sleek, blue paint job was slowly overtaken with his (debatably more fitting) rusted metal exterior. Despite that, Mater did his best to remain the best possible tow-man for the town, and more importantly, his friends and family. Who cares if tourists weren’t rolling in? There were tractors to tip and banter to be had! So while it may have not been the ideal situation for everyone in Radiator Springs, Mater himself simply kept being himself! Until one faithful day, where everything in the history of Radiator Springs would change forever…
One day, good ol’ Sheriff the… sheriff brought in a brightly colored and rather uptight race car; Lightning McQueen! Turns out, the rascal had vandalized half the town, including the very road running through it, in an attempt to flee the law. Truly begging to be released, McQueen stood in court as, what do ya know? Mater had to step up as his lawyer, and soon McQueen was free to go! Well… until Ms. Sally strolled up and convinced the jury to make McQueen pay in manual labour to patch up the Spring’s image. Neat! Oh, and McQueen now owed him 400 thousand dollars in legal fees…
Flash forward a bit, and Mater decides to take the hard working, yet still rather skeptical McQueen out for a night on the open fields! Tractor tilling to their hearts content, this was the moment where Mater seemed to finally get through the first layer of McQueen’s insecurities and rust racism, making McQueen truly begin to be grateful for the slow pace of this isolated yet… calm little town.
Of course, this isn’t all Mater’s story. The tow truck then went on to decipher a globally-effecting lemon car alternative fuel conspiracy while somehow outsmarting two of the world’s most prolific spy cars, even falling in love with one of them. He then moved back to Radiator Springs to tell tall tales with all his friends. Some old, some new.
Experience & Skill
Donkey
![]() |
However foolish or easily deceived Donkey may be, he shouldn't be underestimated. In general, real donkeys are extremely intelligent and possess remarkable memories, capable of remembering other animals and dangerous environments for almost their entire lives, and recognizing different and specific smells and sounds for years. Donkey himself knows origami, and is a great strategist, as he helped with the plan to overthrow Rumpelstiltskin in Shrek Forever After and Charming in Shrek the Third.
He's also a skilled fighter, holding his own against Shrek, who demonstrated wrestling skills and defeated an army of armed and trained knights, Puss in Boots, who has years of swordsmanship training, and Donkey even helped defeat Farquaad's knights on his own. Donkey has even taken karate lessons before! Even if they ended up being his downfall.
Tow Mater
![]() |
Tow Mater’s racing expertise is actually a lot more varied than you might believe. Not only can Mater beat Francesco Bernoulli himself in a race (as well as the other cars in Fast as Lightning) he’s actively trained with best friend McQueen to become as fast as he is, and somehow GoGo Tamago of Big Hero 6 as well. This new knowledge in racing led Mater to develop a race course only for the best drivers in the world, proofed by McQueen himself. Mater also adds his own flair into racing like his infamous backwards driving technique. Mater has called himself the world’s best backwards driver multiple times over, as well as being adept at fishing from towing old cars all day. He knows about the internal details of cars so well he can perfectly explain some of their subcultures and knows their specific part numbers by heart.
After befriending McQueen, Mater was trained by Holley Shiftwell and Finn McMissile in the ways of counter-intelligence, even training in spy simulations. He was so good for a beginner spy that he even fooled both of them into thinking he was a professional spy… without actually knowing he was fooling them. His globetrotting spy journeys led him finally to London, where he singlehandedly figured out Miles Axelrod was the face behind the lemon cars starting an alternative fuel conspiracy to drive more business into the oil and gas car industry. Man. Remember when this series used to be about racing?
However, Mater’s knowledge of the outside world doesn’t just end at cars and spy training. In the short film “Air Mater”, we see a story in which Mater wants to learn to fly, so he reads a short manual in a matter of seconds and learns so quickly that he flies without any trouble, and even flies backwards. Trained military pilots claim that no one has ever managed that before, and later, Mater breaks a record by breaking the sound barrier, demonstrating that he learns things with extreme ease in a very short time, something that not even experts with years of training have managed to achieve. In his various Tall Tale episodes he’s been a Hollywood stuntman, daredevil, firetruck, bulldozer fighter, astronaut, private eye, rockstar, wrestler, doctor, and likely much more. With McQueen there alongside him! Honestly, it would be harder to list what Mater hasn’t done.

Fairy Dust
![]() |
Fairy dust is a very common element in the Shrek universe, it is produced by fairies as they fly and has various effects on anything it comes into contact with. Donkey not only appears in several games where characters use fairy dust to enhance their abilities, but he also has the support of fairies (See Support for more information), giving him access to the following:

![]() |
Donkey, somehow, has the Fairy Godmother's wand and has used it at will to create several of Shrek and Friends' vehicles, although he doesn't know how to use it completely well and has only used its magic to transform things into other things and create life, he has access to the following:
- Transmutation: The wand has been used for many things, even Donkey used it to turn ordinary objects into toys and a swamp beast. It was also used to transform Pinocchio into a real boy and then back into a puppet, King Harold into a toad, and the Fairy Godmother into Bubbles
- Summoning: The fairy godmother's wand can summon servants and objects at will
- Energy Projection and Electricity Manipulation: The wand fires electrical attacks and lightning bolts that damage the enemy, although these can be reflected by metal
- Teleportation: Poof! They’re gone!
- Creation: Fairy Godmother can make just about any object come to life under her command
- Telekinesis: The wand can move objects through the air
- Forcefield Creation: The fairy godmother can create temporary force fields that protect her from harm from characters much stronger than her

| The Red Cloak: No wolf will get in your way now! This protects you from all danger for 3 seconds. A large red hood will appear over your head and a cape will flutter behind. | |
| The Turtle and the Rabbit: Slow and steady wins the race... yeah, right! If you are the character who activates this Power-Up, you will speed ahead. | |
| The Poison Apple (Bad Power-Up): Take a bite and you'll be in snoozing for 3 long seconds. Watch out for that tree... oh, too late! You cannot control your kart while asleep. | |

Magical Items:

- Pill Bug Ball: Turns the player into a ball, so he can roll into the opponents and get Slamergy.

Tow Mater
Tow Cable
![]() |
He’s not called Tow Mater for nothing. Mater’s tow cable is his main and most iconic tool. He of course mainly uses it to tow other vehicles, whether they’d need a trip to somewhere as far as Tokyo or to be taken to the impound lot, but he’s also used it as a fishing hook to grab stuff from cliffs, a grappling hook to pull himself up to high places or a whip among other things. Not only that, but it’s also really long, long enough to tie up a bulldozer or reach the top of the Leaning Tower of Pisa.
Rearview Mirrors
![]() |
Mater uses these to help him see where he’s going whenever he drives backwards. He can reflect sunlight off them to blind others or even fire a laser that disintegrated a target.
Heads Up Display
![]() |
A device displayed on Mater’s windshield which only he can see, this gives Mater info on his surroundings, including predictions on casino games or the criminal record of other vehicles.
Gatling Guns
A rapid fire pair of guns. Mater can set these off by accident due to the computer mistaking his southern slang as a command to fire. Typical electronic gatling guns fire at 1,500 rounds per minute, and they’re also pretty useful for breaking out of rope.
Holographic Disguise Emitter
![]() |
This is a quick way for Mater to change his overall appearance and access other forms. Weirdly, it can also alter his physiology slightly (like with his teeth) or add things that weren’t there before as well (like a hat).
Parachute
![]() |
From the back of his body, Mater can activate a parachute at any time. It can be used to fall safely from high distances, of course, but also combined with the rockets for flight.
Rocket Boosters
![]() |
When Mater needs to make a quick getaway, he can whip these out for a massive boost in speed. So much so that he’s able to outpace several professional race cars and keep up with Lightning. He can also combine them with his parachute for flight. Wait, didn’t we just say that?
Back Missile
![]() |
Mater also just has a random rocket he can pull out at times. This is different from the boosters though, as it's made for actual attacks.
Road Rumbler Gear
![]() |
When going up against Lightning in the Thundercone, Mater was equipped with body spikes, a morning star, a horn and a flamethrower atop his head.
Video Game Weapons
![]() |
Cars 2:
- Machine Guns: Pretty much the same guns Mater uses in the movie.
- Missiles: A pair of missiles that explode upon impact.
- Troika Missiles: Three pairs of missiles that can be fired one at a time.
- Skate Jack: Deploys a small skateboard-like device that drives under opponents and launches them into the air.
- Impact Mine: A mine that stays on the track until an opponent steps on it, exploding them in the process.
- Oil Slick: Leaves a puddle of oil that causes opponents to slip.
- Satellite Quake: A satellite laser that travels in a straight line, blowing up anything in its path.
- Satellite Blitz: A satellite laser that homes in on the racer in first place, spinning out any racer it hits along the way.
- Leech: A magenta-colored energy ball that bounces around the track until it hits a racer, stealing their turbo energy and transferring it to the user.
- Impulse Blast: An electric charge that shocks all opponents on the track.
Cars 3: Driven to Win:
- Nullifier: Disables all opponent’s weapons.
- Magnetic Mine: A mine that when stepped on, latches onto a racer and starts ticking until it explodes. It can be passed on by side bashing opponents.
- Bombs: A pair of purple bombs with a wide blast radius.
- Tracking Rockets: A pair of rockets that home in on the nearest opponent
- High Voltage: Emits an electrical field that shocks nearby opponents. Side bashing with it delivers an even bigger shock.
- Booster Jets: Grant a temporary burst of speed.
- First Strike Rockets: A pair of rockets that home in on the racer in first place.
- Spike Strips: Pops every other racer’s tires. Could likely cause piercing damage to a normal person.
Super Satellite Seeker
![]() |
This satellite seeker lets Mater sense others from far away distances, given it’s a satellite and all. Mater used it to win a game of hide-and-seek against the citizens of Radiator Springs. Given this is an actual satellite that taps into Mater’s other tech, he could theoretically track people for thousands of miles.
Holographic Projector
![]() |
This allows Mater to talk to his girlfriend Holley via holographic technology. It’s great for if Mater needs advice on certain tasks like avoiding distractions, or perhaps beating a donkey in a fight. Mater could theoretically talk to others on this thing, but they’d also have to have the projector.
Time Travel Clock
![]() |
In the episode “Time Travel Mater,” Mater accidentally obtains a clock that, when he sneezes, sends him to another time period. When Mater alters a past event, history is rewritten and the future changes, so he must be extremely careful with his actions. Mater can choose where to go, when to go, and can even take others with him to other time periods.
Magnet
![]() |
Another one of Mater’s many spy gadgets is a giant magnet that he keeps with him. He can pull it out to attract his enemies’ weapons and metal parts, and release them whenever he wants.
Invisibility Device
![]() |
This gadget allows Mater to disappear from eyesight. A great way to get the jump on enemies when they least expect it.
Night Vision Goggles
![]() |
Like typical night vision goggles, these help Mater see things that can’t be seen normally in the dark.
Snow Gear
![]() |
Before making his way to the North Pole, Mater and McQueen were befitted with snow tires and warm clothing to tread the harsh winters.
Disney Speedstorm Power Ups

Disney Infinity Discs
![]() |
Unfortunately, Cars characters in Disney Infinity can’t equip any normal weapons (at least in the console version) due to their lack of hands and all. Costume Change Discs also weren’t included as they’re just cosmetic. However, all figures regardless of species can use Power Discs, which can give the current figure in play special abilities and upgrades. And strap in, because it’s kind of a lot.
Ability Discs
| Bolt’s Super Strength: Provides a 10% damage increase regardless of attack type. | |
| C.H.R.O.M.E. Damage Increaser: Does what it says on the tin. Has a chance to increase damage! | |
| C.H.R.O.M.E.'S Armor Shield: Provides a change to decrease damage from all sources. | |
| Chernabog’s Power: Using this demon’s wrath, it has a chance to increase all damage by 20%. | |
| Dr. Doofenshmirtz's Damage-inator!: Dr. Doof gives weapons a chance to do more damage overall. Normally this’d be useless to Cars characters, but not in VS! | |
| Electro-Charge: Victor from Frankenweenie invented a way to give the current player more health regeneration. | |
| Emperor Zurg's Wrath: Causes the player to have bonus melee weapon damage. | |
| Enchanted Rose: Increases the player’s health, but weirdly does not increase the health meter at all. | |
| Fix It Felix's Repair Power: Felix’s magic hammer increases the health of the player. | |
| Flubber: Reduces the time needed to use the current character's special move. | |
| Merlin’s Summon: Increases the pickup range of items like Sparks around the player. | |
| Mickey's Sorcerer Hat: Increases the amount of experience points gained by the player. | |
| Mulan's Training Uniform: Also increases experience points. | |
| Pieces of Eight: Increases the amount of blue Sparks, the currency used in the game to buy toys. | |
| Ralph's Power of Destruction: Gives a chance to increase the strength of a player’s attacks. | |
| Rapunzel's Healing: Like her hair in the film, this heals the player over time. | |
| Scrooge McDuck's Lucky Dime: Increases the amount of blue Sparks, like Pieces of Eight. | |
| Scrooge's Top Hat: Literally does the same thing as the dime. | |
| Star Command Shield: Provides the player with less damage taken from all sources. | |
| User Control: Increases the experience and leveling up gained by a player. | |
| Violet’s Force Field: Summons a shield around the player, decreasing damage taken. |
Event Discs
Toy Box Challenge Items
![]() |
Unlike the console versions of Disney Infinity, the Cars cast can actually use certain tools in the 3DS version, which acts more like a Mario Party-style game.
- Pixar Ball: The iconic ball from Luxo Jr.
- Bluderbuss: Fires small iron balls.
- Stitch’s Blaster: The signature weapon of a certain blue alien.
- Sword: Self-explanatory.
- Carl Fredrickson’s Cane: A cane with tennis balls attached to it.

- Springboards: Dunno what a spy would use these for but sure.
- Fog Emitter: Could be used like a smoke bomb.
- Water Gun: Anyone thirsty?
- Oil Gun: Basically another oil slick.
Abilities
Donkey
Donkey Physiology
![]() |
(Rest In Peace Perry the Donkey 🙏)
As his name suggests, Donkey is a donkey, implied he was once human, since he tells Puss that the sounds he makes when he first enters Donkey's body are normal at first. He's probably a child turned into a donkey from the Pinocchio story, as he even mentions getting wedgies at school, but that's beside the point.
Donkeys are also adapted to their environments, descending from the African wild ass, an animal that adapted to extreme heat and water scarcity to survive. Their ears allow them to regulate their temperature, and they have a coat that makes them resistant to extreme heat and cold. They also have an incredible long-term memory that allows them to recognize other animals and dangerous environments for years.
Donkeys have enhanced senses, something demonstrated by Donkey, since Shrek says Donkey's enhanced sense of smell could track Fiona, and Donkey smelled waffles from a great distance. This is true to life, as a donkey can smell up to 10 kilometers (6 miles) away when searching for water and food. Although he looks like a normal donkey, he's an incredible swimmer and can breathe underwater indefinitely, and bro has a cat's tail (?)
Burro Blast
![]() |
Donkey’s main attack is a super kick capable of destroying objects and obstacles, and stunning or killing any enemies it hits. He can also kick you in the balls, which must be absolutely agony.
Fire projectiles wait what
![]() |
In Shrek Super Party, all the characters fire fireballs that damage enemies. These attacks are unlimited and travel in a straight line.
Power-Bray
![]() |
Donkey's screams are so loud that all enemies within its range are insta-killed, even if they are stronger or comparable to him. Donkey screams can travel up to 3 kilometers, making this a great AoE option for instantly killing all enemies within that range.
Shapeshifting
![]() |
In a McDonald's commercial promoting Shrek-themed cups, the characters take the form of ordinary cups and then return to their normal shape whenever they want.
Summoning
![]() |
In Shrek SuperSlam, Donkey’s best move is to summon his children, the Dronkeys, who attack the enemy. They can also be summoned in DreamWorks Super Star Kartz.
Hammerspace
![]() |
In the Kattobi! Shrek manga, Donkey can conjure objects out of thin air, such as a pig costume for Shrek, plates, a chef’s hat and apples, giving him easy access to his entire arsenal whenever needed.
Homing Attack
![]() |
All characters in Shrek Carnival Craze can throw objects whose trajectory is chosen by the thrower, sending them wherever they want to reduce the probability of missing.
Shrek Party Powers
![]() |
- Shaking: Donkey slams his rear end against the ground, causing tremors and stunning enemies
- Charge: Donkey charges at enemies with all his might, destroying walls and enemies even underwater
- Swimming and Underwater Breathing: Donkey can swim perfectly and breathe underwater without a time limit, even charging at enemies while swimming.
Shrek SuperSlam Moveset
![]() |
Donkey has a versatile moveset in Shrek SuperSlam, including front and back kicks, incredibly fast charges that send enemies flying, lifting enemies onto his hind legs to stun them, or jumping and spinning like a helicopter whilst kicking anyone nearby.
Super Slam!
![]() |
Once his Slamergy gauge is full, Donkey can unleash his finishing move, Donkey Stampede, charging at all enemies in an extremely fast attack.
Jumping Step
![]() |
Donkey leaps into the air and does a somersault, damaging any enemies he lands on.
Pulverisation
![]() |
The playable characters in Shrek 2: Beg for Mercy (Shrek, Puss and Donkey) can completely obliterate enemies, reducing them to dust.
Tow Mater
Tow Truck Physiology
![]() |
The cars in the Cars universe may look similar to the cars from our world, but they’re actually a heck of a lot different. For one, all cars have a ginormous brain hiding behind that metal carapace they call a shell. They have other human-like qualities like a tongue and teeth, and in Cars 1 they’re only shown drinking oil for nourishment, but in Cars 2 they’re also shown to need human food. Despite this, they still probably don’t have blood flowing through their veins, but a car’s own oil has been exploded inside of him before. So that’s something.
Resurrection
![]() |
If Mater is to die, his spirit will be met by the Speed Demon, who is an angelic car there to guide Mater’s soul to the afterlife. During this whole ordeal, Mater’s soul seemingly experiences the world around them in slow motion while they float around at normal speeds. What makes this so important is that Mater’s soul can reenter his body to bring himself back to life. He does need to distract the Speed Demon long enough to do this, but given how easily Mater did it before, it's not too much of a drawback.
Subjective Reality
Perhaps Mater’s most iconic ability is his power to go “You was there too!” and instantly rewrite the past to make an individual always be... there. You could argue McQueen is just forgetful a lot, but he just genuinely was not in these past moments, and Mater can retroactively change them while telling a story. And we know all of them are actual things that’ve happened, since at the end of each Tall Tale episode we see some form of the events come back to the present. It’s unknown how Mater has this ability.
Flight
![]() |
While Mater has flown many times before, he was never able to do so without any special equipment. That is until he met a UFO named Mator, who granted him the ability to fly on his own. Not only that, but he can even fly in space at blinding speeds.
Turbo Energy
![]() |
Turbo Energy is a resource vehicles can build up by performing stylish moves like drifting, driving backwards, driving on two wheels and air tricks. The energy fills a meter that allows abilities like short speed boosts and temporary shields. When the meter is completely filled, racers can go “In the Zone”, which gives an even bigger speed boost, knocks away opponents and shields the user from 1 attack.
Reality Warping
![]() |
Somehow, Mater can change the area and the physical appearance of others around him to different things. This isn’t a one-off ability though, as he once flew over Disneyland and transformed it into a winter wonderland, shaping the landscape to a much more Christmas-ified version.
Double Jump
![]() |
Not only can Mater jump high into the air usually, he can also double jump in the Cars 2 mobile game. Somehow.
Spy Abilities
![]() |
In the DS and 3DS versions of the Cars 2 game, spies are given special abilities to aid them during missions.
- Sneak: Temporarily becomes invisible to get past enemies.
- Repellor: An EMP used to disable objects.
- Attractor: Used to collect objects.
Surface Scaling
![]() |
In the Cars 2 Java game, Mater can somehow drive up buildings like he’s Spider-Man (or, Spider-Truck). He can also of course do this while driving backwards.
Disney Heroes: Battle Mode Abilities
![]() |
Mater is playable in Disney Heroes: Battle Mode and gains some abilities to combat foes.
| Passive:When Mater uses any stack buff on him he salvages that stack, converting it to a “Scrap” stack. Every “Scrap” Stack grants Mater a Shield worth some HP. When this shield is broken, Mater loses a stack of “Scrap” and gains the Shield again. Mater’s Shield cannot be removed by any special interactions except for Damage. Active:Mater turns backwards, stops time, and speeds up to the enemy battlefield from the opposite side, dealing Normal Damage.Mater deals a percent more Normal Damage per stack of “Scrap”.“Scrap” stacks cannot be Copied, Stolen, or Removed and reset between waves.+Normal Damage | |
| Mater tries to mimic McQueen’s famous “Kachow” but Blinds himself instead for a few seconds.Additionally, while Blinded, Mater Distracts the enemy team. While Distracted by Mater enemies lose Basic Damage and Skill Power. Mater additionally gains a percent of more stacks of “Scrap” while this skill is active.+Skill Power +Basic Damage | |
| Mater uses his crane’s rope to hit enemies, damaging the enemy team for Normal Damage.Mater deals a percent more Normal Damage per stack of “Scrap”.+Normal Damage | |
| When the enemy team attempts to apply a stack debuff to Mater, he converts that same debuff to a stack of “Scrap” instead. When Mater has more than a certain amount of stacks of “Scrap” he is immune to Knockbacks. Every time an enemy attempts to Knock Mater Back, Mater instead knocks him back instead and deals Normal Damage. If Mater has more than a certain amount of stacks of “Scrap” he becomes immune to debuffs and crits.+Normal Damage | |
| If the enemy team removes any stack buff on Mater before Mater gets to salvage it to “Scrap” stacks, he gains the corresponding “Scrap” stacks. When Mater is KO’d, all the stacks of “Scrap” that he accumulated explode, dealing Normal Damage per stack of “Scrap” to the enemy team. Furthermore, after the damage is dealt, the stacks of “Scrap” are split between Mater’s remaining allies. These allies gain all the beneficial effects of “Wee-Woo Backwards” from their stacks of “Scrap”.If Mater reaches a certain amount of stacks of “Scrap” he gains a percent of Max HP, a percent of Basic Damage, a percent of Skill Power, all of his damage Super Crits and his Attack and Movement Speed cannot fall below a certain percent for the rest of the wave.+Max HP +Reality +Armor |
Fourth Wall Awareness
![]() |
That’s right, reader. In Supercharged, Mater talks directly to the player, and has acknowledged the fact that he’s a movie character before. Characters in Disney Infinity that Mater is comparable to have even interacted with the camera before and also talked to the player.
Shoo, you really was there too!
Skill Tree
![]() |
Whenever a character levels up in Disney Infinity they earn skill points, which can be used to unlock their own unique set of abilities or upgrade already existing ones. In Mater’s case, these include:
- Health Boost: Increases Mater’s health.
- Helping Hand/Team Player: Decreases the amount of time needed to revive another character.
- Turbo Boost: Increases the rate at which the turbo meter fills.
- Power Disc Recharge Upgrade: Increases the rate at which the power disc meter fills.
- High Jump: Allows Mater to jump higher.
- Dad Gum Drivin’: Increases the speed at which Mater can perform tricks.
- Regenerating Shields: Shields that must be depleted before Mater’s health is affected. They regenerate over time.
- Shield Surge: Increases the strength of regenerating shields.
- Regenerating Shield Upgrade: Increases the rate at which shields regenerate.
- Ranged Attack Upgrade: Increases the strength of any equipped loadout.
- Ultra Ranged Attack Upgrade: Further increases the strength of any equipped loadout.
- Tire Fire: Increases the rate of fire on any equipped loadout.
- Ammo Boost: Increases the number of shots that can be fired from the Multishot loadout.
Cognitive Immortality (See Before the Verdict)
![]() |
Due to the way Disney Infinity’s characters and universe work, every living being is perpetuated by the player’s imagination, only existing through them and them alone. As long as the player’s imagination exists, the player character can infinitely respawn after dying, which Mater could fully have access to.
The Donkey VS Mater Curse
![]() |
During the creation of this blog, two members of the research team were hacked after joining the blog. This is clearly because Mater is Boundless and made sure to get rid of them with his power called “The Donkey VS Mater Curse.”
Resistances
Donkey
- Heat: Survive fire attacks from the dragon and can survive in Dragon Island’s lava caves
- Cold: Doesn’t seem to be affected by being completely buried under snow
- Although you could argue that the characters in SuperSlam escape after being frozen in a block of ice, this is because the power-up is temporary and wears off in a few seconds, just like all the others in the game
- Fire Manipulation: Can endure fire attacks from other racers
- BFR: Fairy Dust can teleport the user to another realms
- Cosmic Radiation: Survived exposure in the vacuum of space
- Transmutation (Debatable): Can move as a glass and return to his original shape, although this is possibly just shapeshifting
- Soul Damage (Debatable): Can tank the dragon’s fire attacks, which destroyed Farquaad’s soul, although it is more likely that they only damage the soul once it is outside the body
Tow Mater
- Causality Manipulation: Was unaffected when he accidentally prevented the founding of Radiator Springs after meeting Stanley
- Fragrance Manipulation: Mater has resisted in his own carbon emissions before, which made Finn cough
- Fire Manipulation: Heroes can resist fire-based attacks from other Heroes like Maleficent and Lumiere, who set enemies ablaze
- Electricity Manipulation: Mater and other cars have shrugged off lightning attacks before, and all Heroes can resist electric-based attacks from Heroes like Zeus and Megavolt, who use technological and cloud-to-ground lightning attacks
- Ice Manipulation: Heroes can resist ice-based attacks from other Heroes like Elsa and Frozone, with opponents being able to break out of being frozen solid
- Poison Manipulation: Heroes can recover from Sally’s Frog Breath skill, which applies poison damage to anyone hit
- Mind Manipulation: Heroes can break out of Kaa’s Hypnotic Stare skill, which charms them and lowers their guard
- Transmutation: Heroes can break out of Merlin’s Teacher’s Pet skill, which transforms the target into a squirrel
- Corruption, Mind Manipulation, Empathic Manipulation, and Data Manipulation: After being saved by other Heroes, they are unable to affected by the Inventor and the Mega Virus who can transform others into Creeps (evil computer viruses) by touching them
Forms
Donkey
Horse
After drinking Happily Ever After, Donkey becomes a perfect version of himself, a great and loyal steed, with the ability to jump much higher, run faster, and become physically stronger, but there isn't much more to add to this.
Tow Mater
Drift Party
![]() |
This version of Mater was granted to him by a fellow tow patron after someone in Japan challenged him to a drift race. This form can help Mater drive easily through oil slicks and also mostly resist McQueen’s fire attack.
Monster Truck
![]() |
Also known as the Tormentor, this form comes from Mater’s days as a wrestling monster truck. Throughout his time, Mater slowly grew larger and larger to combat his foes that usually towered above him. And when faced against Frankenwagen’s Monster, used his tow cable to tow the entire wrestling ring over.
Support
Donkey
Fairies
![]() |
The characters in Shrek 2: Beg for Mercy have access to fairies who help them in their fights, allowing them to fall more slowly and following them from the side, Donkey has also used fairy dust to fly on two occasions, and in The Ghost of Lord Farquaad, he has better control over this than in the first film.
Blind Mice
![]() |
Donkey has a carriage pulled by two seemingly ordinary horses, which turn out to be the blind mice we turned into steeds that Donkey drives, although this effect is temporary and they can return to normal.
Dronkeys
![]() |
Donkey's children, half-dragon, half-donkey creatures, resemble small donkeys with dragon wings and tails. Donkey can summon them in the DS and GBA versions of Shrek SuperSlam to attack enemies, he also can summon them in DreamWorks Super Star Kartz. They can fly, breathe fire, and are playable characters with their own varied movesets. They also are dragons in the game How To Train Your Dragon: Rise of Berk what the hell
The Dragon
![]() |
The dragon, Donkey's wife, is also an ally just a whistle away, since whistling is how you summon her to help. If you don't want to believe this would work, since the dragon would probably have to be nearby, Donkey's vehicle in Shrek Smash n' Crash Racing is literally the dragon herself, so she's part of Donkey's arsenal no matter what
The dragon is incredibly strong and resistant, capable of flying for miles in a short time, and breathing extremely hot fire that can even destroy souls. While that's debatable since Lord Farquaad's ghost is fine later on, there are two answers to this; the first is that soul destruction could at least incapacitate ghosts, after all, Farquaad was afraid of fire and tried to run away. Why would he run if it didn't harm him besides, he returns a long time later. And the second is that, in any case, ghosts in the Shrek universe can regenerate. I mean, we literally see Farquaad's soul being destroyed into tiny pieces and then completely disintegrated, so this is clearly ghost destruction.
Tow Mater
Disney Infinity Team-Up Characters
![]() |
So, remember those Disney Infinity Discs we talked about in Mater’s equipment? Well, there was one kind of disc we saved until now. The Team-Up discs. These allow Mater to summon a certain character for a period of time. All of them can’t die, and teleport back to the summoner if they’re too far away. Here they all are.
Ant-Man
![]() |
Scott Lang, AKA Ant-Man, is a Brawler type character. In combat, he will shrink and grow in size to hit enemies, with a hundred times his strength just like his actual comic counterpart. For his final move, he can grow in size dwarfing everyone around him, and stomp directly on a target. Even casually he can just grow to the size of buildings if he so chooses, but probably needs some orange slices afterwards. Like Spider-Man he’s also capable of climbing walls for some reason, and from his training with Hank Pym can harness actual ants to enhance his attacks which have also been shown to completely paralyze foes as well.
Captain Marvel
Carol Danvers, AKA Captain Marvel, is a Ranged type character. In combat, she can fly around and shoot energy blasts at any nearby enemies. In the Battlegrounds playset, she can summon a shield around herself and instantly hit any opponent on-screen. Nick Fury stated that she can fly at subsonic speeds, and knock out frost giants all on her own.
Iron Patriot
![]() |
James “Rhodey” Rhodes AKA Iron Patriot, is a Ranged type character. Upon being summoned in, he’ll fire red energy bursts at nearby foes and hit them with his various repulsor blasts. Since he isn’t playable we are unaware of what else he can do, but comparing his armor to Iron Man’s, he can very likely fly around at high speeds, fire small grenades onto the ground, and chuck entire people over his head. When he’s summoned in Battlegrounds, he will fly above the current target and fire homing energy beams at them.
White Tiger
![]() |
White Tiger is a Brawler type character. Once summoned in, she’ll start attacking any nearby foes with her claws, even capable of knocking out powerful symbiote creatures that tower over her. She has a communicator in her wrist to stay in contact with support, and in Battlegrounds she’ll give the player an attacking buff.
Winter Soldier
![]() |
James Buchanan “Bucky” Barnes AKA the Winter Soldier, is a Brawler type character. Once summoned in, he will attack any enemies in the area with his fists. and can push them back with a ground pound attack. Once summoned in Battlegrounds, Bucky will stay in the foreground and shoot the enemy target with his gun, giving a salute.
Yondu
![]() |
Yondu is a Ranged type character. Like the rest of the characters, he fights nearby enemies with his bare fists, because who needs a fin arrow? In Battlegrounds, Yondu calls in his entire ship to fire down blasts at the enemy. Still feel like the arrow would’ve been easier, but you do you. Normally though, his ranged attack is the arrow itself, and he can even summon multiple all at once if need be. His control of the arrow doesn’t end there though, as he can also make the arrow straight up explode or stun them.
Mace Windu
![]() |
And finally we have Mace Windu from Star Wars. For some reason, this is the only non-Marvel Team-Up character. We don’t know why. He’s a Melee type character, and when summoned he will attack nearby enemies with his purple lightsaber.

Scaling
Donkey

In the Shrek universe, even though Donkey is just an ordinary donkey, he still manages to scale almost any feat you can think of, being able to fight against the franchise's main characters like Shrek and Puss in Boots. Puss in Boots is comparable to almost every one of his own show feats, and he's even capable of fighting against the very concept of death, which logically should be comparable to almost everyone in this universe

Weaknesses
Donkey
![]() |
Donkey's greatest weakness is clearly his incredulity and clumsiness. Not only is he extremely easily distracted, easily deceived, and prone to falling into traps due to acting on instinct, but he is also very sensitive, fainting at the sight of blood and afraid of the dark.
He is also consistently vulnerable to various types of abilities, experiences intense pain when burned, is bothered by foul odors, and can be frozen solid, remaining frozen until the ice breaks on its own or someone else breaks it. He is only saved because the effects in games have a time limit.
Tow Mater
![]() |
Consistently, Mater’s greatest weakness is trusting himself too much, and not being fully aware of his surroundings until it’s too late. While Mater somehow outsmarted two highly-skilled and professional spies, it’s more like he just kept getting lucky throughout all of Cars 2 and just so happened to know hyperspecific things about the hyperspecific situation he was in at the time. Mater sure as hell has expertise in a lot of fields, but with things he has no experience in, he fails to improvise and lets other people get the upper hand. Hell, he’s gotten no-diffed by a toilet before. A TOILET. All just because he didn’t know how it worked.
Including Mater’s abilities from other sources and media, some like the Disney Infinity Discs he can only have two of at a time, and even his support is only summonable for around a minute and it takes even longer to recharge.

Donkey
Shrek Canon + The Media we used
Canon is definitely something we didn't think we would need to explore for a franchise like Shrek, but believe us, it's a bit more complicated than it first appears.
The Adventures of Puss in Boots:
The biggest point of contention when analyzing this universe is a particular spin-off show, The Adventures of Puss in Boots, a Netflix show starring Puss in Boots. We don't have a direct statement confirming whether or not it's canon, but a strong argument for it being canon is an interview where it's stated that the show takes place before the Shrek movies, which is good, but there's a problem. That only tells us the show's chronological placement, not necessarily that its canon and that its events occurred in the Shrek universe. But that wouldn't be a problem since there's nothing to say it isn't canon, right?
Remember when we said there's nothing to say it's canon or not? Well, we lied. There is something to say it isn't canon. In an interview with the co-director of Kung Fu Panda 4, she stated that the DreamWorks TV shows are not usually canon to the films, as the parts of DreamWorks that make the movies and those that make the shows are separate entities. Why does this matter? Because she was literally a key part of the development of The Adventures of Puss in Boots, not just Kung Fu Panda, so her statement also applies to this show. This is where things get worse, as there's no real connection between the movies and the show. None of the directors or writers of Shrek or Puss in Boots films participated in or supervised this show at all. They practically gave a team complete freedom to do whatever they wanted with the story, and there are contradictions that prove it, such as the fact that cats don't have extra lives in the show's universe. Heck, literally at the end of the show, we see Dulcinea accidentally kill Puss at an early stage when he should still have all his lives, but Sino states that nothing can bring Puss back to life except the power of love, which is how he returns. We could overlook this detail if Puss's extra lives weren't such a fundamental point in literally the entire plot of the second movie, and his lives have been mentioned since the beginning in Shrek 2 and the first Puss in Boots movie. Furthermore, there's so little connection that not only did the show's writers not bother to maintain consistency with the films, but the same is true on the other side: the events of the show are never referenced in the movies. Yes, it's true that everything was reset and didn't happen, but Puss asks to remember everything before the reset, and Dulcinea also remembers, and they leave together. Even so, these events are never shown when Puss sees his life flash before his eyes or talks about his deaths, there isn't even the slightest mention.
Tldr: there's nothing to indicate that this show is 100% canon; quite the contrary. Someone involved in its creation stated that shows are generally not canon. No screenwriter or director of the films had anything to do with this show in any way. It doesn't bother to be consistent with the films, and the films don't take the show into account. There are contradictions too big to simply ignore, contradictions that prevent the films' plots from happening in the first place. Given these requirements, Death Battle shouldn't use the show either, since it massively contradicts the original material and has been declared non-canon.
As for why we decided to use it, it's because this blog uses practically everything, including clearly non-canon crossovers. It would be foolish to exclude such an important show for the scaling of the universe. However, it probably shouldn't be used in general.
Shrek Official Timeline:
An official Shrek timeline has been circulating on Twitter, chronologically organizing the events of the saga and including The Adventures of Puss in Boots. This could actually be a very strong support for the show's canon... if it weren't for the fact that this timeline is riddled with errors and contradictions to the show itself.
The biggest mistake is placing The Adventures of Puss in Boots after all the Shrek movies, even though the show's director clearly stated that it takes place before the Shrek films, when Puss was still inexperienced. Therefore, placing the show later is completely wrong. Second, Puss in Book doesn't take place after The Adventures of Puss in Boots, we literally see characters from that show in the special, and Puss recognizes them, like Toby, Taranis and Dulcinea, so this also makes no sense. And lastly, this timeline doesn't address canon, as it leaves out The Ghost of Lord Farquaad, despite it being canon. Finally, if we were to follow this timeline to the letter, we shouldn't include things like games, commercials, or comics because they aren't part of this timeline, and therefore not canon.
The Tiering System has layers! (All about Shrek feats)
![]() |
The Dragon destroys a mountain
This is an extremely simple and straightforward feat, yet people have still found ways to massively inflate the result. A calculation has been circulating that uses extremely poor logic to inflate the numbers, claiming the dragon has hypersonic speed because she travels from the swamp to Far Far Away in seconds, and using that speed to say the gap is kilometers long... yes, a hole of just a few meters where you can see the end on the other side measuring kilometers. This logic is completely invalid calc stacking, since first of all, the dragon isn't that fast (more on that later), you can't calculate the size that way because her speed isn't entirely consistent, and the writers didn't consider the dragon's speed for a movie that didn't even exist yet and that the hole should be half a kilometer long, and finally, there's already a more accurate calculation for this feat that reaches a maximum of Town Level, although to be fair, that end is probably the most valid, since the comic shows the dragon pulverizing the rock.
The Dragon flies to Far Far Away
This feat is simple, but the calculations often give extremely inflated results. The dragon flies from the swamp to Far Far Away, which is very explicit, and the characters can scale since they can escape the dragon. The problem arises when people assume this only took a few seconds, which isn't true, since the dragon has been flying for some time when the scene is shown and doesn't start flying right then and there, so we can't assume it happened in a few seconds. The distance is enormous, since we see that there were still 700 miles to go to Far Far Away when Shrek, Fiona, and Donkey were halfway there, so it's probably at least 1400 miles. The timeframe is vague, but since she had been flying for a while, it's probably an hour, which, ironically, is the same calculation and result as Shrek running from the swamp to Far Far Away (Mach 1.824)
Puss tanks the Beanstalk
In the first Puss in Boots movie, there's a scene where Puss, Kitty, and Humpty plant the magic beans, and the plant grows massively, so much so that it leaps out of the atmosphere beyond the clouds. The novelization of the film mentions that the plant reached rocket speed, and everyone was hit but survived, calculated at 56.6 Megatons or up to 18 Teratons using the novel's statement. So, is it usable?
Unfortunately, no. First of all, "at rocket speed" is clearly hyperbole used to describe the plant's rapid ascent, not necessarily at a literal, exact speed. Second, no one would actually scale this. Puss, Kitty, and Humpty weren't hit by the entire plant, they were only propelled upwards by its leaves, which represent a fraction of the plant's total mass. Furthermore, the plant was growing larger and larger, gaining mass and strength as time went on, and they only received a blow at the very beginning when the plant was just growing. The rest of the travel was spent riding its leaves, so this not usable.
Wishing Star Scaling???
No.
Debate me… if you dare! (All about the Puss In Boots Show)

Lasers Feats
There are several arguments that Puss and other characters on the show have reaction speeds close to or exceeding the speed of light thanks to lasers, but unfortunately, they aren't very good. The main arguments stem from the lapis lazuli of San Lorenzo, which, to begin with, was never stated to be lasers or light at all, so we're off to a bad start. Second, these don't look like lasers traveling in a straight line, they appear as electricity inconsistent in its direction. To make matters worse, it's been shown many times that they don't burn, explode, destroy or move things, or penetrate surfaces, that is, they have mass, which light doesn't. So these lasers are completely unusable. There are other lasers in the show, but likewise, they're never called lasers, and they explode and destroy things instead of burning, so any feat of this magnitude shouldn't be used at all.
MFTL Feats
Puss sends El Moco to the sun: In the episode “Stories”, we see Puss kick El Moco, sending him flying into the sun, this was calculated at 294 times the speed of light!, which is an impressive speed. There’s nothing wrong with the feat itself, it’s very explicit. The problem is that this is just a fictional story made up by the kids from San Lorenzo. That’s literally the whole plot of the episode, and yet someone actually wanted to sell this feat haha
Puss travels back to the earth: In the special, Puss In Book, there's a route where Puss is sent into space, acquires the narrator's powers, and flies to Earth. There are no planets visible, so he was clearly outside the solar system, which requires massive speeds…
However.
There are three major problems with this feat that are too difficult to ignore. The first is that the world within the book is fictional, created by the narrator who writes everything in it. The narrator doesn't know everything about the universe or its exact measurements and size, and this becomes clear when we see that space is only a few meters from Earth, in fact, clouds and rainbows separate Earth from space, which is not realistic at all. Second, the book probably isn't even that big, since Puss escapes by discovering that literally the entire background is fake and part of a stage set that isn't real, that would include the supposed space.
And another problem is that there's no reason for Puss's reactions to scale to this feat at all. He literally doesn't dodge anything, in fact 99% of the space is empty. Puss just flies in a straight line and falls to earth without showing any reaction to anything that happens, and the flight is achieved using the narrator's powers. So even if you want to use this feat while ignoring the previous problems, Puss wouldn't scale at all. But let's be kind and find a way to calculate Puss's reaction in the hypothetical case that you wanted to use this feat. Let's look at the following example (which was quite useful for some things) and calculate based on that:
![]() |
Puss clearly either could see Earth or knew exactly where he was, since he flew in a straight line to the planet without needing to dodge anything or maneuver. So, at best, the most he did was land in a place whose location he already knew.
Puss is moving at 43,519,596 times FTL, and travels from a distance of 25,671,960,000,000 miles, which is 41,313,034,946,474,240 meters moving at 1.30468467 × 10¹⁶ m/s
Time = Distance / Speed
So he’d have a window of 3.166 seconds to slow down and make a stop on Earth.
That’s 0.316 m/s or Mach 0.00092 in reaction speed… yeah genuinely sad but we can't do anything about it! No MFTL Puss today, unless…
Bloodwolf shoots to the sun: At the end of the fourth season of The Adventures of Puss in Boots, we meet Bloodwolf, the season’s main antagonist and one of the show’s most significant villains. In an attack intended to end the fight, Bloodwolf fires into the sky, striking a celestial body and then attacking Puss and his friends, who react to this attack.
There has been some debate about what Bloodwolf actually shot at, but the most likely conclusion is that it was the sun, for the following reasons:
- The red moon had not yet reached the lunar phase, Bloodwolf says that the moon will give him the power to destroy the world once it arrives
- The red sun and the blood moon are the sun and moon we already know, as the sun turns redder, heralding Bloodwolf’s arrival
- The moon is visible in the sky and night falls after the blood moon arrives and the storm subsides
So, the moon hadn’t reached that spot yet, which means Bloodwolf must have fired at the sun instead. The question is whether Puss actually reacts to this attack, as he begins to cover himself after Bloodwolf fires, judging by the sound we hear, but, technically, he moves in tandem with the attack, as he starts to raise his hand before Bloodwolf fires and then keeps his hand raised as the attack approaches. This depends on how you interpret this sort of feat, as Puss clearly cannot react to this attack, but can move in tandem with it. Calculating Puss’s downscaling of the attack results in 190 times the speed of light, much slower than the original attack, but this is to be expected given that no one was able to dodge said attack.
Although, to be fair, it is likely that El Guante Blanco would have reacted, as he moves his head slightly backwards as the attack comes towards him.
Tldr; Bloodwolf shot at the sun, not the moon. The problem is that no character is actually able to dodge these attacks at all, and they were all speedblitzed before they could do anything. But you could argue that Puss moves in tandem with the attack, which could just be an animation thing since the scene makes it clear that no one was fast enough to evade the beam. However, El Guante Blanco moved his head back slightly as the attack approached and after it was fired.
In favour of the feat: Dash Fish, Morta Dreemurr
Against the feat: Roxx, The 3ggman, Scumbag Steve
Neutral - Unsure: AlfieMations, Nario64
However, despite the team’s deeply divided opinions, this feat will be taken into account in the verdict as a very possible and high end.
So, about Planet Level Puss
There are two arguments supporting this level: the first is Bloodwolf being capable of destroying the world, and the second is Bloodwolf creating an attack that travels from the moon to Earth. Unfortunately, neither argument is truly usable.
Starting with the first, Bloodwolf doesn't have the power to destroy the world at any time. He claims he needs Puss's fear or the rising of the red moon to achieve it, but when he tries to obtain Puss's fear, he fails, so he never attains that power. And when the red moon does arrive, Bloodwolf is quickly defeated by BFR before he can do anything. No one faces Bloodwolf while he has the power to destroy the world at all, so this argument is unusable.
Let's talk more about scaling Bloodwolf, as it's going to be important. First of all, Puss is clearly much weaker than Bloodwolf. I mean... literally, just look at this scene where Puss attacks with everything he's got but can't budge Bloodwolf an inch. Even his sword shatters upon touching Bloodwolf's nose without even fazing him. Heck, the golem, who's much stronger than Puss, punches Bloodwolf in the face and does absolutely nothing, not even budging him a bit. It's true that everyone survives Bloodwolf's attacks, but he was clearly playing, and no one is supposed to be comparable to him in any way. Even when he gets serious, Dulcinea needs to be protected from his attack, or she'd most likely die. Even if you want to believe that Bloodwolf wasn't holding back, the show obviously wouldn't kill off the heroes, but narratively, no one can scale Bloodwolf in any way. Another argument in favor is that Puss is stronger than the Arcana, which is true, but the Arcana doesn't scale with Bloodwolf either. Instead, he must use it to seal Bloodwolf in the Underworld because otherwise, it's impossible to defeat him. It never damages him, only incapacitates him.
Now, regarding the second feat, there are two problems besides Puss not scaling. The first is that this breaks the rules of the KE, since it doesn't come from the moon, it comes from the sun as explained before, which is MFTL speed, and mass cannot travel faster than light. Furthermore, it requires assumptions such as the material of this attack or that it is actually a physical material instead of simply a very powerful energy attack. Furthermore, the area of destruction should be at least similar to the KE generated by the attack, but there is literally no damage to the area where the attack lands, as if it hadn't destroyed anything despite its enormous attack power. Secondly, even Bloodwolf wouldn't scale. Sure, you can argue things like this attack, the moon and sun turning red, and so on, but Bloodwolf isn't the cause of this. Bloodwolf was sealed sleeping in the underworld and emerges after all these events. These aren't things he directly caused, and even if they were, there's no reason to assume that Bloodwolf physically scales to an energy attack or light that occurred as collateral damage from his summons. All of this ignores the fact that no one actually scales to Bloodwolf in the first place.

Cars Canon
![]() |
Yeah, the Cars canon is too simple. There's really no medium that strongly contradicts the movie canon. The Mater stories are obviously canon because the whole point is that they actually happened thanks to Mater's power. The games are adaptations or continuations of the movie story, like Cars Mater National Championship, where McQueen trains to win the Piston Cups he won off-screen between the first and second movies. The only thing that shouldn't generally be used are obviously crossovers like Disney Speedstorm, Disney Heroes, or Disney Infinity, but they're being used on this blog. That's it.
MFTL+ MATER!?
![]() |
In the short film “UFM: Unidentified Flying Mater”, Mater tells McQueen how he met a UFO named Mator, which grants him the power of flight, accompanied by a blue light when he uses it. It also massively amplifies Mater's flight speed, allowing him to fly through space at an incredibly high velocity. The calculation takes into account that, while flying, Mater and Mator freeze the light they generate at such high speeds, preventing other light from following them. This light emanates from them and illuminates the surroundings, so the feat is fine to use and quite explicit. The question is whether this applies to Mater's regular speed or to his reactions, which we will discuss now:
Arguments for
Mater’s flight here should be able to scale to his reaction speeds for a couple reasons. Firstly, Mater is very likely to be on-par with a different UFO that could use similar hyperspeeds, being the mother UFO. After flying into the air, she’s shown reacting to an asteroid belt which should be able to scale back to Mater. Someone could make the argument that Mater is inexperienced with flying, as we see Mater not being able to control himself in the Air Mater short, but this logic is flawed. For one, that was very clearly the first time Mater had ever flown before, so of course he’d be slightly inexperienced. And two, Mater has shown better control of his flight elsewhere, and even in the actual short itself. Mator is the one who teaches Mater how to control himself, and it would be weird to assume we couldn’t scale this level of speed to Mater normally. The nature of the feat itself also is very blatant. As in, why would Mater decide to even fly that fast if he couldn’t react to objects in his way in the first place? One’s travel speeds should immediately equate to their reactions since they’d have to be reacting to the place they’re going to, and all.
Arguments against
The biggest problem is that there's very little information about Mater's feat or how he achieves it, but it's clearly not his regular speed. He's never demonstrated exceeding the speed of light at his normal travel speed, and his travel speed increases throughout the short; he's clearly using a much lower speed, even when he's escaping. He never goes so fast that he outpaces his own light, nor does he travel cosmic distances, nor does he leave the screen in a few seconds as he does specifically at the end. We also don't see him react at that speed at the end, as he only travels in a straight line without ever dodging or piloting anything. We don't know where he went or if he landed anywhere, and even if he did, the reaction speeds for this type of piloting feat aren't entirely feasible. We already saw what happened to Puss in Boots and his reaction time when traveling at a much higher speed than Mater, and believe me, you don't want that. One possible argument is that the mother UFO reacted to meteorites while traveling at high speed, but two things. First, there's no reason to assume that Mater scales to her reaction, since they never fight and he never achieves the same reaction speed, and second, she wasn't leaving light frozen in place as she dodged, so it's unlikely she had the same speed. In addition to all that, 90% of outer space is complete emptiness with nothing to really dodge, and Mater is just traveling in a straight line with no reason why his reactions should be as fast as his movement. There are also other examples of Mater moving at super fast speeds via amps and being unable to control himself, like the time he got some race car attachments and couldn't really control his driving because of how fast he was moving, and those only let him move Mach 1.
Cosmic Mater Adventures
![]() |
In the Nintendo DS game Cars, Mater has a mission where he must jump into space and collect stars to win the level. So, star level, Cars, right?! Unfortunately, there's a very clear problem: the stars are extremely small, even smaller than Mater, and the distance isn't accurate either because they're below the clouds and the moon, not millions of light-years away, so this doesn't require such a massive speed. As for how to calculate this more realistically, the energy of the plasma concentrated in small stars can reach 5.785 Megatons, and regarding Mater's jumping speed, Mater mentions at the beginning of the level that he can jump high enough to reach the moon, and then McQueen states that he'll have to jump very high to reach the moon. The level says you must increase Mater's speed for this, so this is also a travel speed of 0.337c.
Disney Infinity Immortality
![]() |
Now, to talk about the cognitive regeneration/immortality elephant in the room. In the very beginning of the Toy Box introduction, we see a shooting star crash land onto a planet, and upon impact, creates buildings and various Disney characters that we play as. Quite clearly, this little Guiding Star is creating everything that happens in the game. This star can be accessed via the Toy Box’s Spark Mode, in which the playable character turns into the spark from the beginning, and they can place various items and buildings down and whatnot, which is what we see similarly happen in the introduction. The key here is the player’s connection to the player base. The narrator states that it has “limitless possibilities, all created by you”, imagined into the world itself. With the characters of course being part of those possibilities. In actuality the characters are just being placed onto the player base, but canonically everything that happens in-game is because the player is imagining it. Quite literally, imagination equals reality. When a character dies, we see that same spark rekindling them on the respawn point, with some characters even making note of the fact that they died. This means that respawns are in fact canon, and since they happen passively after death, this all means Mater should be able to regenerate from being killed as long as the player can imagine him, right?
Well, there’s one tiny issue with this. You. All of these factors are dependent on something Mater doesn’t have active control of, and that’s the player. The player imagines the Infinity characters into existence. The player controls what’s created. The player does everything… because they’re the player. You could potentially argue Mater getting the player as support, but that would require giving Mater the heavy benefit of the doubt. If Mater or any other Infinity characters summoned in the player somehow, then there’d be a definite argument to make regarding giving Mater this immortality. But, the player summons Mater, and not the other way around. Mater can be summoned and then summon in other things, like Team-Up and Ability Discs, but in terms of canon respawns, Mater has one life and one life only.

Team Donkey
Power
For this verdict, we’re going to talk about the stats in the same way: first without crossovers, and then with crossovers. Of course, the final verdict will take crossovers into account, but this is in case you, the reader, don’t want to use them, since either way, they don’t really change things in any major way.
We could list every feat from both, but let’s get straight to the point: both have, at minimum, feats that place them in the kiloton range; for Mater, Finn McMissile’s bombs (12.5 kilotons per bomb), and for Donkey, Shrek tanking a meteor crashing into his head without even moving (62.9 kilotons), enduring Dragon’s fire, and Puss being able to harm her even in his weakest state, considering she can vaporize part of a mountain (41.47 kilotons), placing Donkey at least 5 times stronger at minimum. Moving to higher levels, Shrek launching Donkey into space and Donkey surviving it was calculated at 91.7 megatons, while the best feat in Cars canon is 5.78 megatons. Yes, that’s a 15 times advantage for Donkey! But it doesn’t stop there. Once we start looking at Puss in Boots’ show, the feats massively surpass this, easily reaching gigatons (from 2.7 to 62.2 to be exact), and going even further, Toutatis and Taranis caused solar flares on the sun, something more powerful than millions of 100-megaton bombs exploding at the same time! In other words, 200 teratons... yeah, things are not looking good for Mater... but surely crossovers make it more even, right? Well, sorry to tell you, but no. The best feat Mater reaches through crossovers is 946 gigatons thanks to Disney Infinity, which is still vastly below the Toutatis and Taranis feat, or even lower than scaling the Dronkeys to Rise of Berk, which also reaches the teraton range. But it doesn’t even end there for Donkey, because thanks to DreamWorks Universe of Legends, he can reach vastly higher levels:
In DreamWorks Universe of Legends, the playable characters are capable of defeating King Globby in battle, who absorbed the power of a Dreamstone, which contains the energy forces of all DreamWorks worlds, amplifying Globby’s power as well as that of other DreamWorks villains who obtained this power, such as Lord Farquaad, whom all heroes can defeat, including Donkey. So, what level does this reach? Well, the absolute smallest minimum is definitely Planet Level. The Dreamstone contains the energy and power of worlds across the entire DreamWorks universe, which at bare minimum are separate planets floating independently where the events of each DreamWorks film take place, separated from the worlds of the others. Another low-end interpretation is Multi-Solar System level, since these worlds appear to function more like small pocket dimensions with different time zones and starry skies, accessible only through portals that act as breaches in the sky, rather than places one can simply travel to normally. And the highest interpretation is Universal. There isn’t an overwhelming amount of context, but everything strongly suggests the Dreamstone may be a universal threat; it maintains the balance of the universe and protects everyone’s destiny within it, it is repeatedly stated that the universe is in danger and that the fate of the universe is at stake, the heroes are said multiple times to be saving the entire universe, and it contains the energy of all worlds that exist within that universe. While explicit total destruction is never directly stated, the constant emphasis on how the entire universe is endangered and must be saved due to its balance being threatened should be more than enough to at least consider this interpretation, especially given that the Dreamstone is explicitly the energy of all DreamWorks worlds.
No matter which end you decide to use, Donkey takes the advantage in strength, whether by a smaller or larger margin, being at least 15 times stronger, extending that gap massively thanks to Puss, and with crossovers, the difference is simply cosmic.

Speed
As funny as it sounds, both Donkey and Mater have feats and scaling that bring them close to or even to the speed of light, such as the Fairy Godmother firing light that everyone can react to (0.092c), Shrek launching Donkey into space at relativistic speeds (0.013c), a regular cow in Shrek jumping over the moon (0.203c), the DreamWorks kid reaching the moon, or Arthur moving in tandem with and reacting to light after it is projected (0.221c). As for Mater, he has direct feats such as moving alongside sunlight reflected from his mirror (0.27c), reaching the moon by jumping (0.37c), and scaling that places him at McQueen’s level dodging attacks from the radiation camera (0.217c best feat OAT btw), the Tall Tales player moving in tandem with a camera flash (0.949c), and finally, McQueen moving in tandem with electricity from a power cable (1.44c). Both are clearly relativistic thanks to feats this consistently within similar ranges. However, Mater’s highest peak is 1.44c, making him 6.5 times faster than Donkey, but of course, that’s not the whole story. Scaling to Puss can very easily place Donkey at 190 times faster than light, and this is highly relevant and worth considering, because even though nobody truly dodges the attack, they do move in tandem with it, and since the vast majority of Mater’s feats also rely on moving in tandem, it would be strange not to apply it here. Yes, nobody fully avoided the attack, but El Guante Blanco was able to move his head slightly backward while the attack was heading toward him, which, in our opinion, is potentially valid enough to consider downscaling from this feat. As for Mater, there is an MFTL+ feat in Cars that is valid in itself, but the issue is that it only applies to Mater’s flight speed, as explained before the verdict. Basically, Mater only flies in a straight line through space, and outer space is 99% empty, there’s no need to dodge anything, and throughout the short, Mater never actually uses that maximum speed except once at the end, instead using a clearly much lower speed for the rest of the episode. In short, this leaves Donkey with a 131.944 times advantage in reaction and combat speed. Sure, Mater is much faster in travel speed, but that doesn’t matter much when Donkey has methods of paralyzing or immobilizing Mater, or even pulling him in for attacks via Magnet (but we’ll talk about that later), making this advantage fairly useless against Donkey’s massively superior reaction and combat speed. On top of that, Donkey and his support are at least faster than all of Mater’s allies from Disney Infinity, who only fly at subsonic speeds.
In conclusion, Donkey’s reaction speed is vastly superior to Mater’s, and although he may be slower in travel speed, Donkey has methods to nullify this with powers that do not require speed to affect the enemy, along with paralysis and immobilization methods, as well as superior travel speed compared to all of Mater’s support.

Experience and Skill
This is the category where Donkey definitely loses his advantage, unfortunately. Don’t get us wrong, Donkey is incredibly intelligent and a great planner and fighter, even fighting alongside trained masters like Oogway, but that doesn’t help nearly as much against Mater. Come on, this is the small-town guy who quickly learned how to use spy techniques and weapons in ways that even Finn McMissile and Holley Shiftwell hadn’t thought of, can infiltrate the most dangerous criminal organizations almost without being discovered until the very end, and solved an entire conspiracy while nobody else had any clue what was happening. On top of that, he adapts to new situations extremely easily and almost perfectly, so there really isn’t much more to explain. Mater has far more experience against enemies like Donkey, is more intelligent, and has lived through vastly more situations, in addition to adapting better to completely new circumstances with near perfection. Mater absolutely dominates this category.
![]() |
Support
![]() |
Although he started out alone, Donkey currently has many allies he can count on in this fight, mainly fairies, who provide support to prevent damage from extremely high falls, grant temporary flight, and fairy dust gives Donkey transmutation to get rid of Mater’s allies, as well as a solid counter to hypothetical BFR. And it doesn’t stop there, because Donkey can summon his children, the Dronkeys, who constantly attack the enemy with their fire. They are clearly comparable to Donkey, being able to damage other characters in Shrek SuperSlam, and on their own, they are comparable to many dragons from Rise of Berk, which are already far stronger than Mater and his allies. The Metal Sonic of this fight, Donkey’s wife, The Dragon, is not only far stronger than Mater, but her fire is capable of destroying souls, at the absolute minimum for long enough that it would count as a victory, allowing her to kill Mater permanently even if he resorted to his soul form. Of course, Mater’s support isn’t actually bad, the problem is travel speed, since Disney Infinity heroes fly at subsonic speeds, inferior to Dragon flying to Far Far Away or Donkey’s kart being able to generate fire by reaching speed (Mach 5), and the vast majority of them rely on stats to damage or kill enemies, since they lack methods to bypass durability. On top of all that, they are temporary summons that require cooldowns to recharge, while Dragon is simply with Donkey throughout the entire game and has no reason to leave. Donkey takes this category.

Magic VS Technology
Due to the absolutely exaggerated amount of arsenal these two have, I’ll start by talking about all the useful options Donkey has to win the fight or put Mater in serious trouble.
Blinding: Donkey has several methods of blinding his enemies for a period of time to attack and gain the advantage while they can’t defend themselves, something Mater has no defense against. These are Disco Ball: Blinds and confuses enemies, Noodle Cart: Blocks an enemy’s vision by splattering noodles everywhere, Swamp Gas: blocks the enemy’s vision. With all these effects at hand, Donkey can prevent Mater from seeing what’s coming, leaving him open and vulnerable to any attack.
Methods of immobilization: Donkey has several methods of nullifying the speed difference by immobilizing Mater, such as paralysis methods, items like Flute that stun the enemy and leave them still and confused for several seconds, and one especially useful method; temporarily putting Mater to sleep is extremely useful, not only because Mater has shown no resistance to this, but quite the opposite, he was affected by sleeping gas in Cars 2, so attacking while Mater sleeps is an extremely simple method of winning.
Power-Bray: This Insta-Kill effect is extremely useful, since it covers an area of literally kilometers and would kill Mater and all his support the instant Donkey decides to scream.
Homing Attack: Donkey’s attacks are difficult to avoid because he can direct their trajectory so they follow the enemy instead of simply going in a straight line. Effects like The Glass Shoe also track the enemy and do not stop until they hit, so good luck dodging!
Now, let’s mention all the counters Donkey has against Mater’s arsenal, whether by getting rid of it or ignoring its effects.
Shields: First of all, the Skill Tree shield is not infinite, it lasts for a limited time and can be destroyed, and due to the abysmal strength difference, Donkey only needs one hit to destroy it, and given Donkey’s moves in several games, he would probably hit many times at once; In SuperSlam, he charges at the enemy many times delivering numerous attacks, and in Beg For Mercy he spins like a helicopter delivering many kicks at once. If one attack is enough to destroy Mater’s shield, then he’ll deliver many more right at that moment. On top of that, SuperSlam characters can destroy shields, so good luck with that.
“It’s mine now!”: Donkey has two methods of literally stealing Mater’s arsenal, and the first doesn’t require speed. Using the monkey would literally cause Mater’s items to simply teleport into Donkey’s inventory, so any potentially dangerous arsenal can be used by Donkey instead, including summons that come from items.
Practically everything!: Thanks to the Mind-Control Helmet, DreamWorks All-Star Kart Racing characters can literally discard all rival items, emptying their entire inventory. Do I need to say more? This would literally leave Mater with none of his arsenal the moment it’s used, and trust me, that’s difficult to counter when almost all his win conditions rely on arsenal!
Nullifier: Donkey has no direct response to this, since it would simply leave him weaponless, of course, that assumes Donkey didn’t steal it and use it against Mater instead. However, arsenal like the monkey that steals items are not objects, so they wouldn’t be nullified, and Donkey still has the option of simply physically beating Mater into dust. In the end, losing items hurts Mater far more than it really hurts Donkey.
Now, let’s move on to important questions that define the result.
Q: “Could Donkey kill Mater?”
A: Yes, he absolutely can. First of all, without Disney Infinity respawns, which are external player assistance, Mater only has one method of immortality, which is returning to his body. There are several problems with this. First, Mater definitely does not have infinite chances; he won’t be able to distract the afterlife forever with simple tricks before they catch on. Second, Donkey can consistently disintegrate his enemies until they’re reduced to dust, leaving nothing behind, and without a body to return to, Mater’s soul would simply wander aimlessly, unable to interact with the material plane or continue fighting. Third, Dragon’s fire can explicitly destroy souls, at least for a very long time, which would still count as a victory for Donkey either way.
Q: “Is Donkey dumb or distracted enough to let Mater finish his story?”
A: This is a very common argument: claiming Donkey would let Mater finish his story, which really isn’t very accurate and directly contradicts the plot of an entire Halloween special. In Scared Shrekless, Puss and Donkey tell horror stories that end with both trying to mess with the other by putting them in dangerous or humiliating situations, and every time Puss said something harmful, Donkey immediately interrupted the story to stop it before it could finish and negatively affect him. The moment he hears Mater making up even a slightly harmful story about him, Donkey would obviously interrupt before Mater can finish, since the full story needs to be heard for it to take effect. On top of that, Mater has never used this in real combat, and Donkey wouldn’t let him start making up a story mid-fight before simply killing him.
Q: “Does Mater have any way to win?”
A: Yes, several actually, but some have problems. First, his story creation was already explained, so another safe option would be sending Donkey to another point in time. Sure, Donkey can ignore BFR, but he can’t stop being sent to another era since he can’t time travel, or Mater could even alter history so Donkey was never born in the first place, or so the fight never happened, winning by default. The problem is that Mater has never done this in combat, in fact, his first time travel was purely accidental, and after learning that even the slightest interaction with the past can horribly alter the present, he uses time travel to fix mistakes. It’s unlikely he’d risk severely damaging history just to beat Donkey. On top of that, Mater needs to get close to Donkey, hook him, and then sneeze to travel, but Donkey has shields that can prevent Mater from approaching, and thanks to his superior reaction and combat speed, he could simply kill Mater the moment he tries to get close, after all, he only needs one hit. Mater’s other viable win condition is the Infinity Gauntlet, which can instantly kill all enemies except bosses. The problem is that Donkey can simply use the monkey to steal this item and use it against Mater, assuming he hasn’t already erased Mater’s entire arsenal anyway. Although, it could also be argued this power-up is simply a physical attack, since it creates explosions that kill nearby enemies. Sure, it’s described as Insta-Kill, but that may simply be because it’s vastly stronger than those enemies, which would make sense given it can’t kill bosses stronger than Mater.
And with that, we arrive at the final and most important question.
Q: “Who would use their win conditions first?”
A: With everything shown, Donkey has everything necessary to be the first to land the lethal blow: his items are generally useful, since much of his arsenal is viable, unlike Mater who has to rely on extremely specific items he probably wouldn’t prioritize, and would instead likely start with his spy weapons, while Donkey only needs to... kick once really hard to win! On top of being able to steal items or directly erase Mater’s entire arsenal out of nowhere, ignore his story creation, and Mater really doesn’t have many options left without that.
![]() |
Conclusion
With such clear advantages, we believe it is much easier to argue that Donkey wins before Mater does. This is by no means an easy fight, and Mater certainly does not lack win conditions or advantages, but Donkey has the benefit that most of his arsenal is far more lethal and requires much less digging through everything he has available. You could argue that a single hit would be enough to kill Mater, reducing his body to dust and preventing him from reviving, Dragon can destroy Mater’s soul and stop him from returning to his body if one is even left, and one scream has such a massive area that it would instantly kill Mater and all his summons at once, with no real way to simply dodge it since it covers the entire screen and stretches across literal kilometers. The ability to erase and steal Mater’s arsenal is also extremely useful, since Mater’s best win conditions largely come from his arsenal, and using the Mind-Control Helmet once would be enough for Mater to lose everything. Donkey also has the ideal counter to the story mechanic and definitely would not allow them to happen before interrupting, giving him the victory and bringing the tale of this legendary race to an end.
The Winner is Donkey.
Team Tow Mater
Power
Let’s of course begin with power. Sticking to their main canons first, on the low end Donkey can scale to Puss fighting against the Giant of Del Mar, coming out to 2.019 tons of TNT, and the low end of Shrek tanking the Rumple meteor gets to 7.337 tons of TNT, putting him into the Building to Large Building Levels of potency. But we can go higher with scaling Donkey to the Obelisk of Night storm’s low end of 229 tons of TNT, getting to Multi-City Block Level. And we can go even higher into Town Level with the Dragon’s mountain hole feat of 19.4 Kilotons of TNT and the Rumple meteor’s high end of 62.9 Kilotons of TNT. Then of course Donkey himself survived getting launched into space by Shrek, with a potency of 91.7 Megatons of TNT, or City Level! But none of this even compares to the scaling Donkey would get from the Puss show, comparing him to Toutatis and Taranis who made the sun flare at 200 Teratons of TNT! Large Country Level is where Donkey caps without crossovers.
Now, how does Mater compare? Mater has survived Small Building Level gas explosions of 0.006 tons of TNT, and similarly can scale to Professor Z’s helicopter surviving an explosion worth 5.26 tons of TNT, or Large Building Level. Putting Mater further, we can see he’s flipped over a wrestling ring at 62.98 tons of TNT worth of KE, being City Block Level. Scaling Mater to Finn, we can get him to Small Town Level or 3.56 kilotons of TNT from surviving his initial mini-bomb blast. Getting him higher into Large Town Level, we can use McQueen’s feat of re-entering orbit at 283.7 kilotons of TNT. But the absolute highest Mater can get to is with his own feat of absorbing small stars, getting to 5.785 Megatons of TNT or Small City Level. If Mater didn’t have the Puss show to scale to, Mater could almost be comparable to Donkey, but unfortunately Mater is a LOT weaker with just their main canons. Technically the Puss show isn’t canon but, you get it. Mater is losing in terms of physicals.
But how about those crossovers? Unfortunately, Mater still fails to pull ahead. Mater can scale to the Solar Flare dragon in Rise of Berk (since his kids are in that game and all) whose scales are as hot as the sun! Which would come out to 3776.080 Teratons of TNT, or Continent Level! Mater at most can scale to spaceships in Disney Infinity creating blasts seen from space, worth 946 Gigatons of TNT, or Large Island Level. Which is great, but not enough to surpass anything Donkey can accomplish physically. This isn’t even mentioning how Donkey scales to King Globby, who absorbed the energy of the DreamWorks universe, which could be at the very least Planet level, or even Universal at its absolute highest. Donkey very clearly takes power.
![]() |
Speed
Now time for the second stat, speed! Donkey is able to run across falling bricks at the Subsonic speeds of Mach 0.6, scales to Shrek making it back to Far Far Away in a single night at Mach 1.824, and is able to keep up with other racers who can accelerate their karts at Mach 5. This gets Donkey all the way up to Hypersonic, but can obviously go further. Scaling Donkey to Starshard’s comet speeds at most of Mach 199.4 gets him up to Massively Hypersonic speeds. From that, Donkey can work his way up to lightspeed reactions. Donkey can scale to the cow who jumped over the moon, Arthur moving in-tandem with light, and the DreamWorks moon child, all of which get into the 0.2c ranges, being just barely Relativistic speeds. Then we have the Puss reacting feat, getting to 190.15c, or MFTL. The likeness of Puss actually scaling to these kinds of speeds on the regular aren’t the most reliable, since everything else in the clip got really speedblitzed by the Bloodwolf’s beam, but it’s still notable as a high end. However, can Mater beat that?
Mater can keep up with McQueen on the regular, who can beat Francesco’s Subsonic speeds of Mach 0.243, and this is consistent with Captain Marvel’s Subsonic flying abilities as well. However Mater has broken the sound barrier before all on his own, obviously clocking in at Mach 1, or Transonic speeds. Mater is then comparable to the Kinect car dodging missiles at Mach 2.53, and moving fast enough to create fire underneath him at Mach 5. That reaches Hypersonic, making a safe middleground in comparison to Donkey. But these Mach speeds are far more consistent, flying at Mach 22.15 speeds all on his own, and scaling to Han Solo’s Mach 3,477.68 escape pod. Mater’s even able to pilot Santa’s sleigh at Mach 8,668. That’s more than enough to reach Massively Hypersonic+! But now we move onto lightspeed. Both travel and reaction-wise. Mater’s moved in-tandem with sunlight at 0.27c, can reach the moon by jumping at 0.337c, scale to McQueen’s in-tandem movement of a wire socket at 1.44c, finally breaking into FTL speeds. This is consistent with the fact that Mater and other Disney Heroes are able to react to various lightspeed projectiles. But of course, we have Mater’s MFTL feat this time. With Mator, Mater could outpace his own light at 223,753c at a high end. Even the low end of 5,817.59c is enough to beat out Puss’s feat by an extremely large margin. But is it valid?
Yes, we believe in MFTL+ Mater. Given that Mater can scale to Mator and the mother UFO herself, who can react to objects at these kinds of speeds, means that Mater would be about 1176x faster at a high end. In terms of reactions and flight speed, at least. In terms of travel speeds, Mater also beats Donkey. Since Mater could reach the moon by simply just driving fast enough onto a ramp at 0.337c, gives him Relativistic travel and driving speeds. Donkey’s best travel speed feat is scaling to Shrek’s Far Far Away trip at Mach 1.824… yikes. That’s a very big difference. About 294845x faster on Mater’s end. Given Mater’s much faster travel speeds, and even faster reaction speeds, allows him to take this category completely.

Experience and Skill
Mater definitely has the advantage in this category without needing much explanation. Despite seeming like a foolish tow truck, he has proven himself to be extremely intelligent and highly capable, even adapting to completely new things, such as flying, something he had never done before. Yet on his very first flight, after reading only a few pages of a manual in seconds, he flew in reverse, something military aircraft with years of experience recognized and stated nobody had ever accomplished before in history. Later, Mater breaks the sound barrier and a world record that even aircraft that have flown their entire lives had never surpassed. Thanks to crossovers, Mater has faced enemies with abilities similar to Donkey’s, and has fought while being outnumbered and still won regardless. It becomes very clear that Mater is overall far more intelligent, experienced, and skilled than Donkey, and he would have little trouble adapting quickly to something completely new to him. This isn’t to downplay Donkey, he is incredibly good in combat, but he simply doesn’t have much to compare in this category.
![]() |
Support
![]() |
This category’s quite interesting. On Donkey’s side, he has the power to summon his wife and kids, fairies to help him flight and other abilities, and of course who could forget the blind mice? On Mater’s side, he has various Marvel superheroes and one Star Wars guy to summon, reindeer to help him fly and warp reality, and State Farm Agents to patch him up if need be.
To compare them, Donkey’s advantages come in the form of loyalty and longevity. Firstly, the fairies can transmutate things, which Mater resists, and has ways to match their various stat amps as well. Then there’s Donkey’s family. The dragon is no force to scoff at, being able to fly at high speeds and even destroy souls with her fiery breath. The dronkeys are that, but to a lesser degree, and should be comparable in stats to the dragons in Rise of Berk. The destruction of Mater’s soul is definitely something to look out for, as if he loses that, then he wouldn’t be able to resurrect himself like he did with the speed demon. But besides those few things, there isn’t much the dragons specifically would be able to do in terms of versatility.
Which is where Mater shines. Arguably his most important piece of support, Ant-Man, can grow to large sizes to match the size difference Donkey’s dragon would bring to the table. Adding onto that, Ant-Man can also paralyze multiple foes at once with ants, which would allow Mater to get in his much needed instakill options (elaborated in the next section). But that’s not all, as Yondu can summon in his ship to help keep up with the dragon’s size, and is also to stun enemies for Mater to hit them. And of course the State Farm Agents, able to repair Mater if any damage gets done to him.
Overall Mater’s support would help him just as much as Donkey’s could, making this category more of a draw.

Magic VS Technology
Now for the ultimate conclusion. Donkey’s magical arsenal vs Mater’s more technologically-based one. Let’s talk about the stuff Mater can heavily resist or counter first.
Electricity, Fire, Ice, Poison, Transmutation: (Donkey’s Godmother’s Wand, Fairy Dust, Fire Projectiles, Ice Wand, and Poison Apple.) Donkey is able to transmutate things with Fairy Godmother’s wand and fairy dust, and can conjure various elemental attacks via his own abilities and other items, which Mater actively resists thanks to Disney Heroes. Donkey would still be turned into an object if transmuted, but would break out just fine in a moment’s notice. This already negates a lot of Donkey’s magic.
Mind Control: (Donkey’s Mind-Control Helmet.) Mater has a resistance to Mind Hax thanks to Disney Heroes (again) and should resist these effects. You could argue that this helmet doesn’t really control peoples’ minds, and the effect is just attached to it for some reason, but we believe that Mater has enough evidence to resist the effects of Donkey’s mind control (being slowdown and item removal). Even then, Mater could shut down the helmet via Repellor.
Invisibility: (Donkey’s Invisibility Potion.) Any invis trickery that Donkey tries to pull would be not only matched by Mater’s two invis options, but Mater can also track hidden individuals with the Super Satellite Seeker, countering this.
Insta-Kills: (Donkey’s Power-Bray.) Donkey in Hassle at the Castle can scream so loud that all enemies on screen instantly die. The issue with this is in-context, is this would just be a single sound that Mater has to react to, since it’s a scream and all. Not only have we seen Cars characters move in-tandem with sound and react to it, they also move much faster than that as we discussed in stats. While it’s true it would travel up to 3 km, it’s not like it's a scream that covers all that distance instantly, and Mater should be able to avoid it regardless. Plus, Donkey needs to charge it up to reuse it as well.
Now let’s talk about the things Mater can at least match Donkey in.
Flight: Mater can fly all on his own, and Donkey can also fly in the air with his Fairy Dust and the dragon should also be able to carry around Donkey if need be. But since Mater’s flight is built-in and a LOT faster than anything Donkey’s shown, Mater should have the edge here.
Shields: (Donkey’s shields, Star Kartz Potion, etc. vs Mater’s Speedstorm shield, CHROME’s Amor Shield, etc.) As these two have been in many racing and party games across the years, they have access to a large amount of shields to protect from damage or straight up just ignore it entirely. Since both of them have access to basically the same amount of things here, they’re basically matched equally here… if it weren’t for Mater’s Disney Infinity Skill Tree. He not only has ways to actively regenerate his shields if they go away, but also increase their overall durability, meaning Mater’s slightly bigger versatility here gives him the edge.
Bombs: (Donkey’s bombs, Pumpkin Bombs, etc. vs. Mater’s bombs, also Pumpkin Bombs, etc.) Now, who has the more potent explosives? Both have mines, Mater has sticky bombs, but overall they’re basically equal. Comparing Mater’s to Finn’s it likely has a large potency, but we’ve never seen Mater use those specific mini-bombs before, so that shouldn’t break the tie here. It’s a draw.
Healing: (Donkey’s Full Health potions, Heart Up, etc. vs Mater’s Electro-Charge, Repair Power, etc.) While Mater has better ways to increase his health over time, Donkey has a few ways to instantly replenish his, meaning they’re also equal here. But given that Mater is a lot weaker than Donkey, Donkey doesn’t have to rely on it as much as Mater has to, which should give Donkey the edge here when we look at the big picture.
Stealing: (Donkey’s Monkey vs Mater’s Magnet and Attractor.) Donkey’s Monkey item from All-Star Kart Racing allows him to steal one or two items from Mater at random. Pretty reliable at times, but also pretty unpredictable as well. Donkey could get something really important to Mater’s wincons like the Infinity Gauntlet, or something relatively useless like his snow gear. Mater’s various magnets (he has like, three of these) are great for basically anything metal. This would include Donkey’s swords, various shields, disco ball, hammer, and even that blasted Mind-Control Helmet! A surprising amount of Donkey’s abilities here are metal. And of course Donkey’s Attractor as well. Though this isn’t able to be used long-range, so Mater would have to get in close to do this. Donkey has the option of stealing basically anything of Mater’s as long as he gets lucky, but Mater has the option to steal specific metal equipment or anything in usage if he gets in close. As a tie breaker here, Mater’s Nullifier item would shut down all of Donkey’s equipment completely, at least for a time, which should give Mater the edge here.
Stat Amplification: (Donkey’s Fairy Dust, various items vs Mater’s Disney Infinity Discs, various items.) Focusing Donkey on speed and Mater on strength here seems like the best way to do this, since those are the areas they need the most help with. Donkey can up his speed with pixie dust, the Turtle and the Rabbit item, and the Unicorn Mask. Mater can increase his strength with Bolt’s Super Strength, the CHROME Damage Increaser, Chernabog’s Power, Dr. Doofenshmirtz's Damage-inator for weapons specifically, Emperor Zurg's Wrath, the list goes on. In terms of their distinct weaknesses, Mater has more versatility in terms of stat amps. Thank you, Disney Infinity!
Now, let’s talk about the things that Donkey basically has no answer to.
Electricity: Mater’s electricity capabilities are actually pretty damn good. The Cars 2 Impulse Blast, Cars 3 High Voltage, and Disney Infinity Cosmic Cube Blast are all options Mater has to electrocute individuals all around him, either shocking them in place for a time or doing some great AOE damage. High Voltage in specific hits one player and then has the potential to pass onto another, which can affect Donkey’s support as well.
Damage Reflection: Thanks to the “Tow Mater” skill in Disney Heroes, Mater can counter an opponent’s attempt to attack him and send damage right back. So if Donkey managed to land some solid hits on Mater and deplete his shields, this would knock Donkey away, giving Mater time for his shields to regenerate.
Time Travel: With Mater’s Time Travel Clock, he can send Donkey into the past to strand him there, or even find out where he is in a previous time and kill him there. It’s worth noting that Cars’s time logic retroactively changes the future to fit the past, and Donkey isn’t acausal like Mater is, so this would fully erase him from existence as if he never existed.
Insta-Kills: Now we get into the two big ones. In Disney Infinity, the Infinity Gauntlet and the Tomorrowland Time Bomb can instantly kill enemies regardless of their durability. The items both have an AOE property to them, meaning it can kill Donkey AND his support in a matter of seconds. The biggest advantage for Mater here is that it negates his biggest weakness, which is the fact that he’s much physically weaker and would have a hard time landing a physical blow with just himself alone. With Mater’s MUCH faster travel and reaction speeds, he can send either of these items out at any time and instantly get the win, which Donkey and his support have absolutely no answer towards.
Now some specific questions related to Mater’s abilities
Q: “Can Mater just pull a ‘Of course I killed you, you was dead too!’”
A: Technically, yes. Actually? There’s a few caveats. Mater’s never used his “You was there too!” powers offensively before, so it’s unlikely he’d do it here. Plus, we only see Mater put McQueen in his memories near the very end of the Mater’s Tall Tale story so Donkey would have to listen to an entire story of Mater’s during the fight, which is pretty unlikely as well. While storytelling is definitely likely to happen if these two actually met and became friends, in a fight this ability is relatively useless due to its extreme set-up requirements. Sorry, Mater bros.
Q: “How often can Mater revive himself?”
A: At least once, maybe twice. Context is important here. Mater managed to trick the Speed Demon, and they replied, “Spose I can let one slip through the cracks.” While this does imply Mater is somehow the only car ever who has revived himself after death, it also means that the Speed Demon wouldn’t let this happen a second or third time if they’re just being lenient. So like, maybe a second time. But that’s a soft maybe. Truly though, just once is the fairest answer.
Q: “Who would use their win conditions first?”
A: While Donkey has the more simple way to win, just kicking the shit out of Mater really hard, Mater’s speed comes in clutch for him here for a lot of reasons. Mater is likely to use a lot of his spy abilities and powers first, since he’s trained in those aspects, then try other things afterwards. Also worth noting are the things we talk about above. Mater has counters or resistances a large number of Donkey’s most potent or common items. And in the very few areas where Donkey has an arsenal advantage in, they practically tie and barely even do so in the end. This isn’t even mentioning Mater’s options to keep himself going that aren’t health based, with gas canisters and reviving himself once or twice. After all this, it’s pretty clear who the victor is.
Mater’s arsenal and abilities overall trump Donkey’s magic ones.
![]() |
Conclusion
While Donkey is much stronger, Mater is far faster which allows him to avoid Donkey and his support for as long as he needs. If Donkey kills Mater, Mater’s skill for adapting to situations would come in handy, being able to resurrect himself at least once to try again. With Mater’s instakill option like the Infinity Gauntlet and Time Bomb, and ways to nullify Donkey’s arsenal before he can nullify Mater’s, Mater ultimately has every advantage he needs to win the fight.
The Winner is Tow Mater.
Summary
![]() |
“Oh, yeah? Well, if I treated you so bad, how come you came back?”
“Because that’s what friends do! They forgive each other!”

- The dragon could destroy Mater’s soul even if there’s a body to return to
- Can steal Mater’s arsenal through Monkey
- Mind-Control Helmet would allow Donkey to remove Mater’s entire arsenal in a single use
- Has the perfect counter to story creation, being able to interrupt it
- His wincons don’t require an arsenal, so the Nullifier is a minor problem
- Fucked
Ties
- Speed is even without MFTL ends
- Bombs
- Literally the perfect friend
Disadvantages
- Much slower in time travel speed
- Would be instantly killed by the Infinity Gauntlet and Time Bombs
- Has no answer to BFR to another time period or to having his past self killed
- If Mater manages to tell a complete story, that could guarantee defeat
- Significantly less experienced and intelligent
- Shrek the Musical
![]() |
“I knew it. I knowed I made a good choice!”
Advantages
- Outspeeds Donkey on most ends with leniency, and has faster travel speeds overall
- Vastly more skilled and experienced
- Resists Donkey’s fire, ice, electricity, mind, and transmutation attacks
- Nullifier acts as a counter to all of Donkey's weapons
- More varied support

- Alex Bale
Ties
- Speed is even without MFTL ends
- Bombs
- Literally the perfect friend
Disadvantages
- Weaker no matter what
- Donkey can counter the “You was there too!” and Mater probably wouldn’t use it in combat
- Wincons rely heavily on arsenal, that Donkey has ways of mitigating
- …Mater needs his soul to resurrect, which the dragon can destroy, and can likely only resurrect himself once or twice
- Can’t revive if Donkey destroys his body
- Disney
The conclusion is clear. Despite the vote difference, don’t get the wrong idea, this fight is incredibly debatable and was a very fun and varied debate. However, the majority of the team agrees that Donkey’s advantages are far clearer. He is much stronger literally no matter what, has solid arguments for taking combat and reaction speed, can nullify Mater’s superior travel speed, and his win conditions are things he uses constantly, while most of his arsenal works without needing to dig through only a handful of specific useful powers or items. Most of Mater’s win conditions come from his arsenal, which Donkey can completely erase or steal and use against Mater himself. Donkey also has the perfect counter to story creation that he has used in-character, and he only needs to kill Mater once to prevent him from reviving by leaving him without a body to possess, giving Donkey the victory in this death race.
Mater’s radiator stopped working, while Donkey is the one who lives happily ever after!
The Winner is Donkey.
Final Tally
Team Donkey (6): Morta Dreemurr, Scumbag Steve, Roxx, AlfieMations, Spectral0108, The 3ggman
Team Tow Mater (2): Nario64, Dash Fish

Other matchups from both series
For the first time on DBE Blogs, we’ve decided to try this format, where members of the blog will discuss other matchups from both series and share their views. Enjoy!

Shrek
Shrek VS Manny
![]() |
Morta Dreemurr: My favourite for both, and in fact, my very first blog! I absolutely love this matchup, and it holds a special place in my heart, even if my enthusiasm for it has waned a little. Thematically, it’s perfect, to the point where they’re almost the same character. It explores the themes of family and friendship for both characters really well, even featuring the same types of characters, such as a daft but loyal friend they rescued at the start, and an orange cat who initially set out to kill them. I understand the issues with the fight dynamics, and I agree, but I still feel you could do something really interesting with this one. No one will ever make me hate you…
Dash Fish: This one seems pretty neat for both, honestly. It would be genuinely funny to see Shrek compete with the size difference here, and just end up being stronger in the end because he’s built different (and by different I mean more cartoony). Goes into their perspectives of family pretty well, I think.
Nario64: I really wanna like this one, but idk. I feel like it’s hard to picture a good dynamic here since Manny can’t really keep up with Shrek in terms of arsenal nor can he properly fight Shrek in H2H combat. I do really like the thematics and banter potential, but overall I’m just mixed on this.
Roxx: The Thematics are pretty good, but it’s still hard to figure out a good dynamic on this one. While Shrek fighting a mammoth is very funny (and honestly not even that crazy compared to what shrek has fought lmao) Manny simply doesn’t have that many arsenal to keep up with Shrek.
Shrek VS Ralph
![]() |
Morta Dreemurr: This is brilliant and my second favourite alt for Shrek. It works well for both characters, and although I’d personally prefer Ralph to fight a character from the world of video games, the idea of Ralph travelling through the internet and coming across Shrek memes is just too funny to ignore.
Dash Fish: Used to think this matchup had nothing going for it, but the more I thought about it this really goes into their characters pretty well. Two big guys, usually shunned away for being the bad guys, but are really kindhearted and caring individuals on the inside. Given Shrek’s longer standing as a series, I really don’t see how this fight is super debatable, as Shrek should be much stronger and much more versatile. Perhaps Ralph has something in the games I’m unaware of? Regardless, I still love this matchup! I think it’s pretty great. I’m gonna shrek it fr…
Nario64: This is easily my personal fav for Shrek. Not only does it get down his overall character pretty well, but I think it has a fun dynamic with a nice mix between the two using their strength to slug it out and the arsenal clash (Ralph should get a decent amount of stuff with side media). Also, “I’m Gonna Shrek It!” is like the perfect track name for this MU lmao.
Shrek VS The Grinch
![]() |
Morta Dreemurr: This is an incredible idea and my favourite alt for both! It captures both characters perfectly: grumpy loners shunned by the world, until they meet a persistent friend they initially couldn’t stand, opening their hearts and bringing them back into the world that had initially pushed them away. The fight dynamic is incredibly entertaining, and as Shrek has played Santa Claus before, it could be a Shrek Christmas special where the Grinch wants to ruin Christmas for Shrek’s family, it’s great fun! You should definitely give this matchup a go!
Dash Fish: The first time I’ve ever seen this matchup is literally right here and now, and I immediately understand this. I swear if Jack Skellington didn’t exist for Grinch this would probably be my favorite for both, lowkey.
Donkey VS Kel
![]() |
Morta Dreemurr:
![]() |
Dash Fish: I remember discovering this fight a while back and laughing at the connections, which if you’re curious are right here, and surprisingly really vibing with this as an idea. I like the idea of Kel’s items clashing with all of Donkey’s shit that he gets from the games, and if you composite Donkey like we did here, this matchup actually becomes kind of debatable. The connections definitely do need a second look, as it compares Kel’s friend group falling apart to… Donkey almost getting sold into slavery 😭 But the comparison of Sunny isolating himself in Headspace to Shrek going to an alternate reality in Forever After is one of the greatest and somehow worst things I’ve ever read. Props to the creator on this one.
Donkey VS Sid
![]() |
Morta Dreemurr: It's funny. Honestly I don't think Sid has anything against all the crazy shit Donkey has, but it's an absolutely hilarious interaction and they're both pretty much the same character, so I'm giving it a go
Nario64: Admittedly I was never too big on this MU as I felt Sid didn’t really have much to work with for an interesting fight. However, after learning more about what Sid can do I have started to warm up to it a bit to where I can say it’s my fav alt for Donkey. Also the commissioned track by Therewolf Media is pretty fire you should go listen to it.
Puss In Boots VS Mao Mao
![]() |
Morta Dreemurr: You have no idea how much I love this idea. It’s my third favourite matchup of all time and I’ve been a fan for years. Mao Mao holds a very special place in my heart and Puss is my second favourite character from Shrek, so I’m incredibly attached to both of them. In fact, I’ve already written a blog about Mao Mao where I discuss this matchup in more depth and all the reasons why this idea is perfect. The fight dynamics are really fun, the connections are amazing, and their personalities fit together so perfectly! Everything about this matchup is ideal for both characters, and if you’re reading this, you should consider watching Mao Mao: Heroes of Pure Heart, not just because of this idea, but because the show is incredible and Mao Mao is a great character.
Dash Fish: Puss wins, right guys?
Morta:
Spectral: I did a like 17 page script on this one, what do you think??? All seriousness though, this is simply just fun as hell
Nario64: PEAK! I really love this MU. Even if it’s not exactly the most thematic you can get for Puss, I still think the cat swordsmen theme works well enough and seeing these two clash blades and bantering off of each other would be such a delight to watch. Also side note: PLEASE BRING BACK MAO MAO! IT WAS ONE OF MY BIGGEST COMFORT SHOWS DURING THE PANDEMIC! 😭
Roxx: Very good! Banter is great and it’s great thematically. Dynamic can also be very fun, while puss isn’t that visually crazy compared to MaoMao bullshit, you can make him the more agile fighter and the clash of Geraldine vs his rapier just sounds really fun.
Puss In Boots VS Buck Wild
![]() |
Morta Dreemurr: Yeah I like it!
Dash Fish: My personal favorite for Puss, really just because of how much I like Buck as a character. He’s awesome and probably the best part of the Ice Age franchise. Hell, he even got his own movie. This could act as a pretty neat swordfighting battle, mixed in with Puss’s flowery language and Buck’s… well… everything he says basically, would make for a very solid fight. Buck wins because of Scrat scaling, obviously.
Morta's note: the last part is fake BTW
Death VS Gerson Boom
![]() |
Morta Dreemurr: Really fun! This matchup started out as a bit of a whim and quickly became my favourite for both of them! The theme is brilliant, and I’ve always wanted a good Death matchup where he’s hunting down a prey he’d realistically want to kill for having lived longer than they should have, and the fight would go incredibly hard. The potential for dialogue and story is simply perfect and I hope it becomes much more popular than it already is! Death wins btw
Dash Fish:
![]() |
Shrek Villains Battle Royale
![]() |
Morta Dreemurr: Do I need to say something? It’s just too peak... A battle between four armies with loads of crazy magic flying around, it’s easily my favourite for all the characters in the Battle Royale. I also helped in a Blog for it, go read it!
Fairy Godmother VS El Macho
(Thumbnail by AlfieMations)
Dash Fish: The peak! Someone did a blog on this a while back, but I can’t seem to put my finger on who… But on the actual matchup itself, I still think this is great. The two second movie antagonists who lie about their true selves, once had a great reputation, and tarnish it even further through manipulating the main character’s friends. All through song and dance! It acts as an army fight between the two of them, the purple minions vs the various workers and things Fairy Godmother can create. And of course, who could forget the Pollito vs Charming subplot in the background? Godmother still wins and I shall stand by that.
Cars
Lightning McQueen VS Thomas the Tank Engine
![]() |
Morta Dreemurr: I mean it’s alright
Dash Fish: This matchup used to confuse me so much. I just kinda thought they were talking vehicles and that was it. And is that still just it? Well yeah, a little bit, but you gotta open your mind and explore the weirder crevices of these characters’ histories to make this matchup really shine. You just read about how weird Cars gets with extended media, and I’ve heard some crazy things about Thomas in VS. Specifically: multiversal arguments and the ability to warp reality to a temporal level, but only on his birthday, for some reason. Thomas don’t play.
Nario64: For years I’ve gone back and forth on whether I like this MU or not. Nowadays, I generally think it’s…fine. I do like how it actually covers McQueen’s arc in the first movie (Yes believe it or not Thomas also used to be a cocky jerk but grew to become a nicer person after a series of humbling events) and it would make for a fun joke episode, but tbh I feel a McQueen MU should play more into the racing theme as that’s still a huge part of his character (Plus the fact he IS a race car obviously). I wouldn’t be upset if this ended up happening, but I would prefer something else for McQueen.
Spectral: Dude… FUCK yes
Lightning McQueen VS Johnny Joestar
![]() |
Nario64: I’m aware this MU definitely has it’s issues, but I honestly can’t bring myself to dislike it since 1: It was made by a good friend of mine and 2: Just the idea of McQueen fighting a JoJo character sounds so funny to me.
Lightning McQueen VS Speed Racer
![]() |
Dash Fish: My favorite for McQueen if he ever got an actual episode. I’ve watched a bit of the original Speed Racer series and the very underrated movie as well. They’re all great! Seeing Lightning face off against Speed Racer here would make for a really unique Death Battle, centering it all around a race of course. They’re some of the most charismatic personalities attributed to racing in modern media, and I think that’s perfect for a McQueen fight.
Roxx: Speed Racer movie would kill a 2026 adult.
Nario64: Definitely my fav for McQueen. It’s pretty solid in terms of connections and the dynamic is very fun with this being a race to the death and both have a good amount of gadgets to throw at each other. I also love how it’s essentially the biggest racing icon in western animation VS the biggest racing icon in eastern animation.
Lightning McQueen VS Rainbow Dash
![]() |
Dash Fish: Yes it’s a shitstomp but it’s fun okay
Nario64: This just so happens to be my first ever original MU. Back then I adored it and was really proud of it. However since then I have pretty much fallen off it mainly because: the dynamic just isn’t all that good. It’s a shame too because I feel this MU excels at other categories like connections, banter and music. If the dynamic was just a bit better, this would still be my personal fav for both. But even if I’m not into this MU anymore, I’ll still always have a soft spot for it as it was my first step into the world of matchup making.
Tow Mater VS Gold Ship
![]() |
Dash Fish: Loyal racers who are both friends with another racer who just so happens to have the name McQueen. This could also make for a really interesting fight between them, that could start as a race and devolve from there. I have no idea where Uma scales at all but I personally consider this Mater’s second best.
Roxx: funny. Gold ship should win too.
Morta Dreemurr: Roxx is lying
Nario64: It do be funny. I’m not too familiar with Gold Ship or Umamusume in general but based on what I’ve heard this seems like a decent enough alt for Mater.
Chick Hicks VS Aran Ryan
![]() |
Morta Dreemurr: Idk it’s just extremely fun lol they’re the same character
Dash Fish: They’re like, both the asshole cheater jerks of their respective sports. I have no idea how this could work as a fight like, at all, but them both trying to con each other out of a win could be funny. And Aran wins by slashing Chick’s tires, clearly.
Chick Hicks VS Jet the Hawk
![]() |
Dash Fish: I would honestly kinda love this if it wasn’t a horrific stomp. RIP
Nario64: I unironically really like this. It’s pretty obvious in terms of connections with the whole “Green arrogant racing rivals of the main character” and I think the fight potential is neat with Chicks various weapons clashing against Jet’s power-ups from the Sonic racing games. You could even throw in Chick’s gang from Race-o-Rama and the other Babylon Rouges to spice things up. Jet obviously stomps since Sonic scaling>>>Cars scaling but idrc I still think this is fun.
Chick Hicks VS Diesel 10
![]() |
(Thumbnail by TripleCx3)
Spectral: Plugging this one for a friend, but yeah, this is funny as hell. Me when I’m basically a racist vehicle rival guy. As my friend put it: “Does the Matchup have any real connections? No, Does it have animation potential? also no. Is it Debatable? I have no fucking clue however the analysis would be hilarious and it would not be out of character for Diesel 10 to call Chick Hicks a Kachigga
Also, check out his work, he does his own blogs too, and they’re pretty neato
Next Time…
And besides that…
